GYB full - what to do now?

Well, I decided to finally sign up for GYB (Getting Your Bearings orientation), since I couldn’t attend CalSO in the summer (I’m an international student, and visas don’t grow on trees :p). But it’s full - there are no seats available. Should I be freaking out and e-mailing the New Student Services Office for help, or should I be taking it easy? There’ll be another orientation for International Students on August 18 and August 19, so I’m wondering if this orientation covers the same aspects as GYB.

Bottom line: Have I missed anything by not signing up for GYB?

What is GYB? I’ve never even heard of it. As a result, I’m betting you’re not missing anything by not signing up for it. Anyway, you shouldn’t be freaking out ever. Taking it easy it much easier.

:D Yeah, but I’m the freaking-out kinda guy, and it’ll take me some time to get used to the other opposite disposition.

GYB = Getting Your Bearings Orientation in replacement of CalSO, i. e. it’s an orientation for those who were unable to make it to CalSO during the summer, and is supposed to ‘cover the same aspects of student life as CalSO’, sans academic advising and Phase I registration. :p

Have you signed up for classes yet?

No reason to freak out, but I would e-mail anyone you can for help about how to get into the program, where to find important information you may miss if you cannot attend the program, and possible alternative programs (such as hour long workshops on subjects covered that happen during welcome week).

:)

Thanks DRab - I think I’ll do just that. But has anyone attended the orientation before and can give me some insight?

And adamboy87, yes, I signed up for all my classes - 18 units and proud of it. :p
