Gym Time

Hello,
I just finished working full-time and completing my MBA at a local state school (I’m an older student). I was first in my class (GPA: 3.96) and plan on going on for a Ph.D.
My concern though has nothing do to with school; rather, it’s about full-time school life: I’m an extremely hard worker, and I take my studies very seriously; however, while working full-time and going to school at night, I’ve gotten out of shape. If I were to pursue a Ph.D. in Business full-time, would I have time to go to the gym for say 1.5 hours each day? This may seem unimportant/vain to some, but I have health issues that regular exercise helps a great deal. Thanks for your time in advance.

Get up earlier. That’s how I fit in gym time. Besides when you’re doing a PhD and don’t have a job, you’ll have much more flexible schedule.

And yes, exercise is necessary in grad school, mainly to keep sanity.

i find a hip hop dancing class really helpful

yoga!!!

Hello again – Thanks for all the answers. I just wanted to make sure that there would be enough time in the day to do it. One of my advisors said that he never had time to go to the gym, while another said yes, he had time to go every day. I was a bit confused. I’m giving up a lot to do this, but I didn’t want to give up my health. If I’m reading these correctly, it seems the best way to go about it is to audit exercise classes correct?
Thanks again!

It’s about making priorities. Some people find that gym isn’t on the top of their non-academic priorities. Others do.

you don’t need to audit exercise classes. you just need to schedule time in the day. although it feels like grad students work all day long, we also waste an hour or two here and there from 8 a.m. to midnight. just replace one session of procrastinating/complaining with exercise and you’ll be good to go.
