I don’t have permanent residency, also known as a Green Card, but I have been living in the US for the past 8 years.

Am I eligible for internships?

Are there any other H-4 students out there?

Sure you can, as long as you are legal to work for any US company.

You will probably not find a job with a defense contractor, as you would need to get a US Security Clearance. This would only be because of your citizenship status, nothing dealing with academics/interviewing skills. You might find a job with them, though you won’t be working on anything classified.

I am in the exact same situation…no green card after having been in the U.S. for 8 years. sure there is very limited number of internships out there. I would recommend searching locally…their requirements for residency may not be as strict. Also, do you have an EAD? If not, you are not eligible to work.

I am sure there are many other H-4s out there. I feel like many colleges overlook “international” students who have been living in the U.S. for many years.
