ha ha, how do you dress when you travel?

Yeah, toledo, I’m not quite sure what I was thinking. Actually it wasn’t at the airport, it was at a park, and I was in my running clothes. A couple of stalls, everybody waiting and bemoaning the fact that one stall was locked. I didn’t have to go that bad, but wanted to do it for everybody else. On second thought, though it might have been a little dicey, I could have climbed over the top from the other restroom.

I took a very good shower when I got home. Plus, ladies don’t pee all over the floor like guys do, right? Floor was probably clean enough to eat on :open_mouth:

I dress in layers - in Seattle, it is a given. When I fly to Hawaii, I wear my favorite travel maxi dress. It keeps my legs protected from the icky seats just like pants, but it is comfier than pants. I would never wear flipflops on planes! I pack my sandals into my carryon and always bring socks to go through the airport security. Those TSA rubber mats are filthy, and so many bare feet step on the exact same spots every day!

I travel in clothes that are comfortable for travel. Period.

Having said that…I also dress in layers for plane travel because you never know what the temps will be like on the planes.

In addition, when leaving from a cold climate, I leave my cold weather gear in my car, and wear something like a fleece on the plane.

Black layers, accessorized by my red Lipault carry-on that goes in the overhead and matching tote that goes under the seat. First luggage I’ve ever loved! It’s ultra-lightweight, so we’ll see how long it lasts, but initial trips have been great.

I wear either tennis shoes that tie or lightweight hiking shoes that tie. Anything else if your plane is going down, and the crew makes you take 'em off. I’m not going down the evacuation slide or running away from a plane in barefoot or stocking feet, even if it takes a couple extra minutes at security.

I dress in layers, with a carryon that contains a complete change of clothes. (I’ve been thrown up on enough over the years, and had enough weird things happen that I always have a complete change with me.)

I wear shoes and clothes that will allow me to sprint through an airport if needed. (again based on past experience)

I always bring a lightweight sweater or ultralight down jacket even when going to a tropical place. (past experience in freezing to death in airconditioned airports during an unexpectedly long delay)

I also wear a smile, a positive attitude and “nice” (But not expensive - see above experience with being vomited on) clean clothes. (based on several friends who work for airlines, and who can tell you that they have a lot of leeway over how much help they can offer -or not- to travelers having troubles of one kind or another. Be nice and don’t look insane or like you slept in a gutter last night.)

Yoga pants. Sue me.

I used to wear jeans but now wear thick ponte pull on slacks that are like shapely yoga pants. I also dress in layers because we are always going somewhere colder than HI and then returning to warm HI. As the plane lands, I bundle up or shed as needed. I get cold on planes so bring a vest and jacket, always. I also always wear long sleeves as I am always seated at the window.

I always take my ultra light down jacket in a very small stuff bag to use as a pillow or for warmth.
Otherwise, layers. Also take a pair of slippers for overseas flights.

Yes, ultralight down jackets are GREAT! Keep lap warm, serve as pillow, jacket, whatever is needed. Warm wool scarves are handy as well and useful as blanket or shawl. Comfort on planes is KEY!

Nothing rivals Nordstrom’s tissue weight cashmere (sadly, now blend) wraps. B-) They pack to almost zero volume and are sooo good to use as blankies on plane. Plus, they are washable.

We dress for where we are going and leave our coats in the car. Sometimes my husband will bring his coat and he may go get car and retrieve us all on return. I wear closed toe but comfy shoes and try to get the kids to wear them also.

Our S was in HI for the holidays one year and accidentally left his warm wool pea coat in the closet. Fortunately, D was home and able to meet us at a restaurant near the airport so he wouldn’t get frostbite when he landed in DC – weather hovering around 0 degrees!

My son and I use to travel from Boston to Fl a lot. At Logan, we’d put our heavy coats, boots, etc into suitcase. If the plane was cool, we’d stay in our NE clothes u til shortly before landing. If plane was warm, we’d change quickly.

Now, son in school in Cambridge, so the dressing is reversed.

Oh hey, I should add I was pre-flight or pre-check or whatever that thing is where you don’t have to take off your shoes to go through security, and I STILL had to go through the X-ray and the pat down because I was wearing my gigantic Fitbit Surge and the xray machine didn’t like it (yeah scattergram my butt-it’s x-rays).

Originally I didn’t have to go through the Xray but some lady was b***** up a storm ahead of me about having to take off her shoes and they flagged her, and then flagged me for good measure, dang it. I’m like, I’m not with her, I’m pre-check, that’s my family there-and I pointed to my family who’d already breezed through security shoes and all, and was now like, uh oh what did mom do?

Luckily all I had on was a tight camisole and tight yoga pants-pretty obvious I was hiding nothing unless they were planning on doing a cavity search (shudders). Which is why I dress that way-the pat down lady literally patted my shoulder and wrist and said 'you’re good to go". I’d wear a bikini through security if it got me through faster.

The cranky lady was having to take off all her layers as I left…

I have my pre-check appointment on Saturday!! Can’t wait!

MOfD, it is a giant microwave. Not as bad as X-rays, but still it cooks you. BTW, the X-rays had been permanently removed… They say “software update” - yup. Right.

In some airports, when they are short on staff, TSA sends everyone through the regular check. Even if you are pre… SJC is pretty bad in that respect.

Once recently I got sent through pre-check when the lines were overwhelming. I was confused – I don’t need to take off my shoes or take my laptop out?? The TSA lady yelled at all of us who were clueless.

We had to put our laptops in a separate bin just like everyone else, but we got to keep our shoes on.

At least I did until cranky lady ruined it for me…

Every pair of shoes I own goes through a run test. If I feel that I can’t run in it for a couple of hundred yards… I do not buy it. So are the outfits. I have to be able to get to the bus stop in a hurry even if I wear a pencil skirt!

Mr.'s Fitbit got flagged by one of those scatterbutt machines. When he got out, the TSA lady asked him to show how many steps he had - then compared to hers, winked, and called him a slacker. Lol!
