Do you dress for the weather from where you are leaving or for the weather where you are going? Decisions, decisions.
I dress for the weather where I am going. I love that I am now able to go online and check extended forecasts , unlike years ago.
I dress for neither the origin nor the destination, but for the travel itself. Always long pants (airplane seats are filthy) and a long sleeve shirt (I’m always freezing in airports). If I’m too hot/ too cold when I land at my destination, I go into the bathroom and change my top before leaving the airport.
Layers.
I dress for comfort in the airport and on the flight . Tennis shoes, pants and several layers of tops I can remove depending on the temp on the plane.
I dress for comfort travel, usually in dark colors and layers.
It’s painful putting on jeans and socks when you’re used to the long hot summer and heading for Iceland. And then, JFK’s terminal 4 or whatever is all muggy inside and you have to sit there for hours.
BUT, all that is better than arriving at Iceland as dawn breaks and it’s about 45 degrees if you’re lucky!
Yes, who cares what the weather is like where you’re going? Bring those clothes with you, but travel for comfort on the flight. And bring earplugs or a noise canceling headset!
I remember once all 5 of us went to Hawaii in February. We packed an extra carry on bag, completely empty, to put our winter coats and hats into after we changed planes somewhere. Sometimes you really have to plan.
I accidentally went to Denver in January once with nothing but a t-shirt and jeans. I was coming from Phoenix where it had been running in the mid-70’s for weeks. As soon as I stepped off the plane onto the jetway I was like, “oh crap”. Had to buy a sweatshirt in the airport; it was probably in the 30’s in Denver at the time.
Anyway, I typically dress for the airplane as someone else noted. If it’s going to be cold (hello Denver) I’ll stuff a jacket in my backpack.
Pack for where we are going…usually leaving cold and damp northeast for sunny and warm Caribbean…capris, tank covered with sweatshirt/jacket, flip flops. We get a lot of funny looks when we are headed back to our car at Logan in our flip flops, particularly when there is snow. I keep my Ugg boots in the car for the ride home.
I get so mad at myself when I forget to wear/bring socks. There is nothing worse than walking through the scanner barefoot.
Haha, I did the exact opposite thing. I was departing from Singapore (nearly on the equator) when my checked bag weighed in overweight. Rather than pay the excess baggage fee, I took my long wool topcoat out and wore it thru airport.
Ah, toledo. Best thing about going through the secure traveler hassle and doing it for Global Entry is not only passing by customs line but also being approved for TSA Pre-check. No shoe removal . But just in case I have had a pair of footlets in my bag.

Try crawling under a dirty bathroom stall, because someone found a way to leave the empty stall locked.
And I’m sure we could come up with a lot more, involving airline travel!
One I was on a trip to Shreveport, LA, with only a light jacket and pants. Somehow ended up in Calgary for the weekend, with a high of -7F. Hard to find a hat and gloves in Shreveport near the hotel, but I found them. Just getting off the airplane and into the van, then the van to the taxi, the taxi to the hotel—those 30 second intervals were agonizing. Reminder to self, a weekend layover in Calgary in December may NOT be a very good deal.
Flying from Phoenix to Orlando once and it got freakishly cold in the plane for about an hour. I had a little jacket, but even better, D3 had scored a bunch of “grandpa sweaters” from the Goodwill in Flagstaff and all 5 were in her carryon. They were unwashed. What to do? I put one on my lap.
I dress for my destination and travel back in similar - but I always have a pair warm socks in my purse and a scarf and throw sweater over on shoulders. I never schlep a winter coat unless I’m vacationing where it’s cold - which would be never.
I dress for the travel as well. Something comfortable, a sweater or sweatshirt in case I get chilly on the plane. If my destination is cold I’ll carry a heavier coat so I have it handy when I get there (umbrella too if needed).
@busdriver11 Crawling under a bathroom stall?!! You must have really had to “go”! I think I’d use the men’s room before attempting that.
Comfortably and having a change of clothes for the different weather at my destination as usually we are leaving from 30F and arriving to 90F. I have compete disregard to the way I look though.
