haas foreign language prereq

what does haas define as “second semester”? is it beginner level or intermediate level? or does it not matter? is chinese 1ay & 1by enough to satisfy the foreign language prereq? thanks :)

This link is to the Haas Website and has the answer:

http://www.haas.berkeley.edu/Undergrad/foreign_language.html

it doesn’t say what level it can be… i understand the second semester part though.

as long as you study the language at a c.c. for one full academic year.

if you are on semester, that would be fall and spring.

if you are on quarter, that would be fall, winter, and spring.

Here’s what I did (I went to two different colleges)

First college (semester) - Took Introduction to Elementary Japanese, First Semester Japanese (Japanese 100A)

Second college (quarter system) - Took Introduction to Elementary Japanese, Second Quarter (Japanese 002), Intro. to Elem. Japn., Third Quarter (Japanese 003).
