I’m a moderator and well respected member of this huge forum with tens of thousands of members and increasing at a huge rate. I was part of this forum ever since it started with less than 10 members and helped to build it up.

I mean, based on this, would it be ok to include on a college app? I don’t know if it would be worth it to mention a forum under my activities.

Now, the subject matter is a little bit more tricky. It’s a forum dedicated to “hacking” games. We don’t do anything illegal, and the word “hacking” is a bit strong, since we do not break into anywhere. And nothing having to do with real-world money. Basically, we’re very careful in what we do.

So assuming it’s fine to put a forum on the app, would it be too risky to put a “hacking” forum?

Any input is appreciated.

Hurr. If you’re certain that you’re not doing anything illegal, building up a website seems legitimate to put on an app.

Like Piper said, don’t put in anything illegal.
Usually “hacks” to games are completely legal as long as you’re not damaging or modifying any servers. Things like modding, ROM hacking, game trainers, CheatEngine are fine because it’s done on your computer. Remote exploits, attacking servers, WEP cracking, bypassing key registration, javascript/php injections are NOT OK to put in your application! (Even though they are mad fun to do :D).
In general, it sounds like your forum doesn’t do any hard-core hacking. You’re probably autoboting games and stuff like that, so that’s fine. MIT students do these all the time… just make sure don’t give the admission office suspect your ethical stance.

Another suggestion, DON"T put the link to your forum on your app. I trust that you don’t do anything illegal personally, but you never know what kinda crap people put on these forums. Just state that you’re really involved in this area and helped build up this community. No need to show them the bad stuff.

Yeah I’d include it. Good info for the extra essay space so you can provide full context.

Ok, thanks everyone for the replies.
