<p>Someone in my office received a promotion a while back and then another person in my office wondered why he hadn’t received a promotion in a long time (I think ten or more years). I think that he felt slighted. I explained to him the process for promotion - you go to your manager and ask what you can do to get a promotion - the employee has to show initiative in taking on responsibility instead of doing the work that is assigned. So he went and talked to him and is taking on additional projects and different work associated with the job that he would be promoted to and is on his way to a promotion. He could have gone through this process ten years ago but he didn’t know about the process or what he had to do. The guy is very smart and conscientious and I wondered why he hadn’t worked on it until I found out that he didn’t know the process.</p>
<p>Ohn Fendergirl, so disappointed for you. It sounds like you came in second, so will be part of the training. The picture will be complete when you learn who did get the spot. Your keeper b/f is right, the vacation will be great at this point</p>
<p>BC - I always do work that isn’t assigned. You don’t get anywhere by just doing your job. My boss knows I want a promotion… I fill in for her when she’s not there, she gives me extra projects as well… and I create my own projects all the time… but it didn’t seem to help. We’ll see.</p>
<p>I’d rather spend vacation relaxing and not thinking about work!

<p>When you get a management job, one of the first things that you’re supposed to do is find a potential replacement for when you eventually leave or get promoted. So it sounds like you’re being groomed for that. It can take a while for the rewards to show up for taking the initiative.</p>
<p>I had a little meeting with her today and we discussed the whole thing. We’ll see.</p>
<p>Update…</p>
<p>I was supposed to have my weekly 1 on 1 meeting with my boss today at 1:00. Today my boss asked me if I would be okay with moving our meeting up till 12:15… I said sure that’s fine.</p>
<p>I join her at her desk and no more then a minute later her phone rings, she answers it, tells me it’s for me and hands me another line to her phone. I was soo puzzled… why would I be receiving a phone call at my bosses desk?? </p>
<p>It was one of the directors from the department of the job I interviewed for. She was calling to tell me that she specially requested me to come help them with training and asked me if I was still interested and I said yes yes yes. She told me I report to her on Monday and I’ll be spending two weeks straight helping out. She said at the end of those two weeks they are more then likely going to be opening another spot for the position I interviewed for and that as long as the next two weeks go well then I should get a job offer for the position. She talked the about hours and the money while I was on the phone with her so it sounded pretty promising. She said we could talk more about it closer to then. I’m trying to keep my fingers crossed and not get my hopes up but she left me feeling pretty hopeful. She ended the conversation by saying she was looking forward to working with me and I told her I was looking forward to working with her as well.</p>
<p>All I can say is I need to be extra on my game the next two weeks and not give them any reason to deny me (again)!!</p>

<p>I’m crossing my fingers… hopefully it goes well. I know her fairly well b/c she used to be a director in my department and I’ve gotten quite a few awards from her so hopefully things work out. She made my day when she called me today.</p>

<p>he’s been helping out the past week and he said they want him to take a facilitator class and have him do some class room training and stick around to help out longer so he’s pretty happy at the moment too. He was really happy for me last night he came over and cooked me dinner and everything. We’ll see how things play out. I’m just going to take it one day at a time and do the best I can and hope I get my spot. Better late then never.</p>
<p>The lady that called me was actually the lady who interviewed him in the first place. And when he came home he was like I heard the news yesterday so and so told me and made me promise to keep it a secret from you. I was amazed he managed to do it! :)</p>
<p>Had my first day today. It went really well and I loved every minute of it. Fingers crossed. If I get the job it might require some travel to our office across the country and that would be beyond awesome. I’ve never been out west! My boss also told me that someone e-mailed her about another position that I applied for in that same department for her to send over my credentials so hopefully it turns out well either which way. Stopped at the store on my way home and picked up some donuts for my trainees tomorrow. They did really good today and deserved a treat. :)</p>
<p>Finished up my 4th week. I haven’t heard anything yet on if they are opening up another position for the role I interviewed for… I’m thinking maybe they changed their mind on it because they added 2 additional helpers last week… so maybe they are thinking if they have more helpers they won’t need another individual in that role… I haven’t inquired about it… but I’ve fully enjoyed my 4 weeks so far. They extended my stay to include all of July and all of August so far. It’s been a great experience and definitely will be adding this to my resume. BF’s helping stay was extended through July and August as well. </p>
<p>That being said, my boss e-mailed over my credentials for that other position I applied for… I had my first interview for it which went really well and then I got invited back for a second interview yesterday. I think it went well but we will see. She told me they were making their decisions on Monday or Tuesday. Trying not to get my hopes up. If I don’t get it at least I’m still working down there for the remainder of the summer. BF didn’t post for this job so he’s not competition this time around. ;)</p>
