Please briefly elaborate on one of your extracurricular activities or work experiences (Recommended length: 250 words)

Please comment on the effectiveness of each paragraph. I really don’t know what to do because all they say is elaborate on an EC experience.
Will read other people’s essays.

This means a lot because everything else is fine except this essay on an EC I did for 4 years

I have been in math club since 6th grade. In high school, I joined Mu Alpha Theta to continue my interest in math with others. I like Mu Alpha Theta because I can teach students and because it has made me happy as a person.

Mu Alpha Theta practices allowed me to mentor and challenge students. As a mentor, I could also set them on the track to success. Before practice, I would ask them how their course-work was going to make sure they were doing well. If a student had difficulty with a math concept I would patiently work through the difficulty. If they tried to avoid me by nodding their head, I would have them work the problem on the board. I wanted them to realize they could place in competitions by paying attention to everything I did. I realized if I showed a compelling problem, they would focus all their attention and resources on solving it. I believed that by challenging them with a variety of problems they could develop problem solving skills needed to succeed in competitions.

Mu Alpha Theta has helped me become group-oriented. Being with other people in this club has helped my depression. For example, at the Dallas national convention I was frustrated because of a topic test. I planned to study math at 6 flags. However, my team mate Alex offered to hangout. I accepted and by the end of the day we rode 10 roller coasters. As a result of the event, I became interested in doing much more with people. For fun, I have organized summer MAO activities at my house where we could swim in the pool, shoot the bow and arrow, or watch a movie. These activities fostered good team dynamics which lead to our 9th place finish in calculus at the San Diego National Convention.

From these activities, I became very close to my team members leading to a combined 9th place calculus team placement at the National Convention this past summer. I learned the joys of teaching something I am passionate about to others. Showing club members math has allowed them to succeed and me to gain experience. I also learned how to socialize and enjoy myself at times. This is important because happiness is needed to do well in a subject you are pursuing. In my case, being happy allowed us to do well at the national convention. For these reasons, Mu Alpha Theta has taught me how to live by helping others and enjoying myself with others.
