Hair Loss Supplements for women

Does anyone here have experience with hair loss supplements (Nutrafol, for example), and if so, would you please comment on results?

I’ve been taking biotin for years, but I honestly don’t know if it’s working or not. I’m considering trying Nutrafol, but it’s pretty expensive. I will consult with my doctor before I try it.

According to NIH, biotin has no proven efficacy in hair and nail growth of healthy individuals despite its popularity in the media. I don’t know about Nutrafol, but I know several friends who have hair loss problems use Minoxidil with good results.

I’ve been using Nioxin for about 2 years now and it’s helped a lot. I get it on Amazon for $50/month, but to me it’s worth it.

My dermatologist prescribed Betamethasone valerate which is a steroid foam and it worked wonders for my Alopecia areata (spotty, not total baldness). Unfortunately, our new insurance company will not cover it, so I switched to Clobetasol which is a liquid that is much more difficult to apply and doesn’t seem to work as well.

Are you talking about Nioxin shampoo and conditioner? I used that many years ago (maybe 15). I might have to try it again.

I’ve been taking collegan for awhile to stave off hair loss form GLP1 use. Not only haven’t I lost hair, but my nails are so much stronger and my skin is better. I use marine collegan powder in my choffy because I don’t do cow products. The one I used (Hearthy Foods) was very reasonably priced, but is now out of stock everywhere. I think they stopped making it. I’m trying a new one by Dr Foster once I use up my current bag. I just hope I get the same results. Maybe just a place to start if you can’t get a prescription. It takes a month or two to see results.

Please disregard the previous picture. Obviously not the right one!

No. I take the pills, one per day. Nioxin Pro Clinical. It used to be called Nioxin Recharging Complex.

Biotin (sadly!) has no effect, and the booming supplement industry—which is full of various “proprietary blends” are….not as helpful as they claim, and frequently harmful.

For many (but not all) women, oral minoxidil or minoxidil in conjunction with spironolactone can be useful.

Biotin works for me. I am losing hair from a medication, and a product called WEEM, which has a very large amount of biotin along with B vitamins, has helped, and my harder, longer nails are further proof of effect.

My dr (40ish female internal med) told me that Nutrafol is only effective (and how much it helps is iffy) for nutrient defficient hair loss which is hard to determine. You can try it but whether it works or not is a toss in the air and don’t spend too much before realizing it is not helping. Edit to say that as you get older, hair loss/thinning is common in women due to a lot of things but mainly hormones and if your hormones are where they are supposed to be for your age and your health, the best thing to do is get a good haircut for your hair type and spend the money to keep it cut/styled - you earned it.

I’m wondering if anyone has tried a pumpkin seed oil combined with saw palmetto?

I feel like I had some pretty significant stress shedding that started in mid- to late May. I think it’s slowed down, thankfully. I had a stress event in mid-February and switched my oral HRT in early March. Noticed increased shedding in May, so it might have been a combo of both of those.

But, I’ve read some positive things about pumpkin seed oil supplements.

I don’t have significant hair loss but have always been a little thin in the front of my hair and am taking a glp-1 so I wanted to get a “head” start on any hair loss from that.

I’ve tried several products: Nutrafol, Serovital (both expensive), Weem & Hum (less expensive) and didn’t see any new growth (but maybe less sheading). I’ve also tried some direct-to-scalp hair oil and hair growth shampoos. I am now using Force Factor Hair Growth chews (they also have capsules) and have new baby hair growth coming in (confirmed by my hairdresser). I get them on Amazon.

I think it’s just a matter of finding the product that works best for your type of hair loss.
