Hair tools?

I did not see a recent thread on this . . .I have the original Revlon hot brush or whatever it is called. It was really helpful when I got it because it allowed me to style and dry without having to manage a brush in one hand and the dryer in the other (I am not an octopus!)

Anyway, it’s on its last legs, and there are so many more similar products out there. I don’t think I need the $600 Dyson version  but I’s like to get something that is not as harsh on my hair.

What’s been your experience with a hot air brush? I have pretty thick wavy hair, so some days I want to dry it straight, other days I want a wave or volume etc. (Of course some days I let it dry in natural beach waves, moreso in the summer). I’ve been looking at a L’Ange, T3 and a couple of other brands, but I don’t really know what has a solid reputation!

@deb922 didn’t you get that Dyson?

D has a Dyson and loves it. She bought it on sale and paid less than $600 (it was still expensive, though). I tried it once and and didn’t really “get the hang of it”.

Dyson hair tools were on sale this past weekend, not sure of right now

I have a regular Dyson hair dryer. Bought it at Costco. I really like it.

I know me. I would have tried the cheaper version and regretted it. Then purchased the version I wanted. Decided to purchase the Dyson. My hair is healthier and less frizzy.

My D has the Air Wrap which is what I think the OP is referring to. I will admit that her hair looks much better. It’s fast and much less frizz. Is it worth the price? Only you can determine that.

I got the Revlon volumizer hot brush when I was first aware of it in 2020. Revolutionized my hair care! Prior to that, I was using a round brush and hair dryer, and a straight iron, and a curling iron to achieve the same result.

After about a year the first Revlon started getting that burnt electric smell, so I replaced it in 2021 during an Amazon sale with the HOT TOOLS 24K Gold Blow Dryer Brush, which lasted until I dropped it in late 2025. In the meantime, our hair dryer that was over a decade old was starting to get that burnt electric smell, so I decided to splurge on a Shark hair dryer with accessories.

I was hoping to replace both the hair dryer and the volumizer with the Shark system, but with the model I got I missed my hot round brush, so I purchased another Revlon on sale.

I have sort of wavy hair that I typically dry straight. My D with very curly hair was visiting in March and used my Shark with the diffuser attachment and LOVED it, and I ended up getting her one for her birthday in April.

I mainly use the turbo concentrator hair dryer attachment to get my hair 85% dry, then use the Revlon for some volume, then use the Shark again to make sure it’s really dry (any moisture/humidity and my hair puffs out). I do like the Frizz Fighter finishing tool, but the Quick Smooth brush didn’t replace the Revlon/hot brush for me.

I’m definitely not against spending a lot on a tool, if it is something I use several times a week and for many years. The cost per use can make that make sense.

I guess I am more afraid of the “opportunity cost” of spending a lot and it not being exactly what I needed and then being reluctant to spend MORE.

I also “don’t know what I don’t know”. The Air Wrap and all the accessories are something I just don’t know if I would use. I probably would if I knew how to! So that is why I am looking for real life examples of how one uses these different tools.

Right now I dry my hair 80% dry with a Babyliss regular dryer. Then I use the Revlon round brush dryer to finish it off smoothly or with a wave. If I want to put nice beach waves in, I then use a curling iron. So maybe there’s a better or quicker way?

I’ve had a regular Dyson hair dryer for years, I love it as my hair is very thick and curly. My daughter has the Dyson Air Wrap for her long, smooth non frizzy hair and loves it. To learn how to use it she watched UTube videos and did a lot of practice. You might like it or the Shark version ( my daughter tried her friend’s Shark and said it was great )

I think T3 makes good products, I know my stylist uses Dyson and T3. Do you have a regular stylist, what does he/she use on your hair?

It seems like the Dyson or Shark type products would have all the tools you normally use-dryer, round brush for more styling vs drying-maybe I’m wrong I know there are a lot of attachments, some come with and I believe some you can add on.

I have the revlon brush - going strong even after 6+ years I believe. I even bought one for D (although I think I am the only one who uses it at her place).

The revlon doesn’t work while traveling internationally. I looked everywhere but couldn’t find a revlon version that supported 240v. I did find a cheap knockoff on amazon and bought that instead. Go figure - that works very well, in fact, better than the revlon!!

If you buy at Costco, they will return it no questions asked.

I bought a Dyson fan that stopped working after a year. I paid too much for it to only last a year. Returned to Costco, no issues. They even agreed with me that it should have lasted longer.

I have the reckon brush dryer, it’s fine. I needed a new hair dryer, and bought a $40 ionic dryer on Amazon, I love this thing! So lightweight, and it takes 7 minutes to dry my thick hair.

I got Dyson Supersonic Nural last weekend for an early Mother’s Day gift from kids. I had not tried it yet but it seems promising that it adjusts temps automatically based on a distance since my scalp is too dry now to handle regular Revlon I have now. I think it’s on sale now for about $350. My DD with long hair and extensions has Air Wrap and it’s a game changer. We both have curly and frizzy hair.

I have the Revlon and it’s fine for me. My DIL has the air wrap and if she could only keep her air wrap or her husband it might be a tough choice :).

OP - ETA I think different places/different promos offer different gadget options so pay attn if you go with Dyson Air Wrap.

Revolt??
