Haircare product

Can anyone recommend a product that will keep hair in place but make it super-duper shiny and sleek looking?

I don’t know of one, but it sounds like a great idea. Wish I knew how to invent it. I use tresemme smooth shine spray and it works for the shiny part. I can’t find any hairspray that keeps my hair in place. My hair is thick and frizzy and does whatever it wants.

If you can afford it , the new keratin treatments at the salon work to keep the hair shiny and sleek and strong, though not “in place”----but avoid Brazilian Blow Out- that one has the high level of formaldehyde. You can have the stylist pull all the curls or waves out, or leave some in for a gentler effect. It lasts a long time, depending on how often you wash your hair. You need a special non-salt/non-sulfate shampoo to preserve it longer.

Conditioners with silicates (Pantene is a leader) or ones with keratin will give that temporary shine.

Some brands of hairspray give shine AND hold. Maybe someone can suggest one of those they like for this purpose!!!

zmom, what texture is your hair?

John Frieda Brilliant Brunette Shine Shock turns my wavy, tends to be frizzy, hair into silk. Sometimes I can’t resist running my fingers through it because it feels so great. I’m not sure what you mean about making your hair stay in place, though. This product makes my hair straighter but not at all stiff. What style are you planning to wear to the wedding?

makeupalley.com has great product reviews for hundreds of cosmetics and hair products.

I use this [MOROCCANOIL - Salon Products - Hair Conditioning Products](http://moroccanoil.com/) but depending on your hair type it may/may not be what you are looking for. I put the oil on my hair when it is dry but before it is styled. I no longer use hairspray. Lots of other companies make product similar to this.

Crisco? OK only kidding but it will make your hair sleek and super shiny and hold it in place:)

Straight as a board.

I have straight hair, with a few long layers at the back and in the front. After I towel dry my hair, I use Frederick Fekkai mouse at the crown, and a few drops of argan oil or biosilk on the ends. I blow it dry, starting with my head down to dry the roots, then flip over and clip up sections to dry the layers with a very large round hairbrush. After it is dry, I go over it with a flat iron to smooth it out. I finish with a light spray (mostly at the crown) of Fekkai or any other good quality spray. The whole thing only takes me about 10 minutes, and because I wash my hair daily, I do it every day.

Do you flat iron your hair? If it’s already straight, it should only take a few minutes to smooth it out to make it very shiny. If your hair is dry, it may be a good idea to use a leave in product prior to using heat appliances - many of the argan or other oils are great, and over time, they will make your hair healthier.

I’ve been using Pureology shampoo and conditioner, which I love.

You guys are the best! Thanks so much.

If the crisco doesnt work, check out the recommendations in this thread. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/parent-cafe/1161493-anyone-use-aveda-smooth-infusion-frizzy-poofy-curly-hair.html?</a> Aveda products are great, as is the moroccan oil mentioned above. I put the moroccan oil (a dab) and a dab of smooth infusion on when my hair is damp.

I have fine hair that is usually super straight, but as I age, it seems to be getting flippant. I use Silk Elements MegaSilk Heat Protection Spray which I get at Sally’s. It’s very reasonable and I spray it on every time I blow dry my hair. [Silk Elements - Silk Elements MegaSilk Heat Protection Spray](<a href=“Silk Elements Strength ‘n Silk Coconut Heat Protection Spray | Styling Products | Textured Hair | Sally Beauty”>http://www.sallybeauty.com/heat-protection-spray/SBS-373269,default,pd.html)

It adds shine, a little conditioning and supposedly protects.

Ellenet hairspray it makes my hair shiny, doesn’t have a strong scent, and it holds.

Oops, it’s Elnett hairspray by L’Oreal I don’t use it everyday, but it’s great when I want extra shine and hold.

I used to have really good hair. Menopause ruined that. I am taking notes.

Zmom, as to your straight hair: thick/thin? fine/coarse?

Treat your hear from the inside, not the outside by taking fish oil supplements.

BB-you no doubt have a great point (as always), but The Wedding is in a week or two as I recall, so Zmom might gain a micrometer of benefit by then! :D

LOL, mafool, I definitely did not mean this as the get-your-hair-ready-for-the-upcoming-wedding advice for zm! ;)

Even when switching to a new shampoo and conditioner, it will take some time for the hair to “adjust”. I use L’Oreal Kearstase line, but 1-2 times a week I use other, less expensive shampoos so my hair will not get “tired” of the same ol’ Kerastase (this was suggested by my hairstylist). I try to minimize the number and amount of “products” I put on my hair, because, frankly, the ingredient lists on some of them read like hazardous waste… :)

10 char

My DD has curly hair that some days looks like a botticelli angel and some days looks like bride of frankenstein. We finally got her the keratin treatment. So glad we never did the brazilian one. Anyway, it was quite expensive and she had to go three full days without washing her hair afterwards (traumatic for a teen) but the results were astonishing. If she washes and lets it air dry she gets lovely loose, smooth ringlets. If she just blows it dry a tiny bit, it is smooth and straight. It’s been four months, still looks great.
