Hamilton College Summer Program in Philosophy

  1. The program is intended for undergraduate students with an interest in philosophy, irrespective of actual major or post-graduation plans.

  2. The program is open to college students from across the U.S. as well as international students.

  3. The program provides room and board without charge, as well as a stipend.

  4. The three course titles for this year are Disaster Ethics, Ethical Discourse for Depolarization and Fictional Writing as Philosophical Methodology.

  5. A field trip to the Adirondacks is included.

Applications for this summer open in January. The program runs from June 23 to July 9, 2024.

In terms of international influence, it looks like the majority of the instructors will be from Great Britain this year.

Updating the thread to note that applications for this year’s program are due by March 11th.

Of additional note, “The Hamilton College Summer Program in Philosophy is funded by the Chauncey R. Truax Fund for Philosophy.”

The 2025 program, which will run from June 22 through July 5, is now open for student applications. These are the planned courses for this year:

  • Utopias and Dystopias, taught by Prof. Mara Harrell (University of California, San Diego)

  • CSI: Philosophy, taught by Prof. Kathryn Petrozzo (Oakland University)

  • Conversations in Applied Ethics, taught by Prof. Alex Cain (University of Melbourne)

Applications are due by March 17, 2025.
