Well…first of all, I think its a fool’s errand to “chance” people. First, people here are not the admissions team for any school, and any admissions officer who is on this wonderful website won’t chance anyone either. You have to examine the CDS data for both schools and see if you fit in academically. If your math and CR scores are moderate to low and your writing is high, then its problematic because many schools disregard the writing score. (which in my view is foolish because so MUCH of college is about writing ability.) Just a thought.

But…

your choice of schools is excellent and interesting. They have a lot of similarities and both are in cold climate areas of the United States and both are somewhat rural areas with reasonable access to a major metropolitan area. BOth are private schools and will give you excellent access to professors and not inundate you with bureaucracy. Both are VERY rigorous academic schools that are not known as party schools. Both have excellent reputations academically.

Its almost a tossup as far as I am concerned, but you should visit BOTH schools if you can and get a feel. If that is not possible, then try and find some people who currently go there (ask admissions to give you some names or ask them to have some students contact you) and talk with them. Do your research about the culture, social backgrounds, economic backgrounds, and diversity of each school. Because FIT is the most important factor in picking ANY school. Four years is a long time to be miserable. And transfering is a pain in the neck and often results in lost time and credits. So you want to get it right the first time. You should try and fit in academically, socially, economically, etc…as best you can. True, kids of all shapes and sizes and backgrounds go to all sorts of colleges…but there is a general notion that admissions does a pretty good job of admitting kids who will be sort of similar in ability and so forth. Or at least some schools do a very good job of that. Huge state schools obviously can’t and don’t even try…for them its simply numbers game.

I congratulate you on picking two very fine schools and I hope you apply to both and get into both and attend the one that is best suited for you. Because being happy is half the ballgame on success in college.

Good luck!

friedokra~thank u so so so much for being the first one who applied this post and have given the best suggestions i’ve ever heard

thanx again

My daughter applied to and was accepted to both Carleton and Hamilton. Both are outstanding colleges with happy students. Ultimately, my daughter chose Carleton - the students are quirkier and a bit more laid back.

I agree with the above poster - you can’t go wrong with either college.

thanx fireflyscout…lol, good luck to your daughter~~carleton is reallty a great school!
