Hamilton the musical

I have my doubts about Phillipa Soo doing Hamilton this fall in Chicago too but hadn’t want to say that earlier but now it was brought up. I haven’t read that anywhere, but on CC. Is that in anything published? I probably could find out as my D is friends with her. In fact, Pippa and her fiancé, Steven Pasquale are invited to my D’s late Sept. wedding and so I wonder if they can make it. My D has mentioned in the past about Pippa going to LA (Steven is doing a pilot there) and she is also going to be in Amelie. My D was going to cast Pippa in something in early September and I know she could not do it because of going out West.

I first heard about it via Charlie Rose (PBS) maybe a few months ago, not in print. Perhaps it was speculation on his part and not set in stone? But I’ve also heard other people around the northern suburbs say she was coming here.

I knew she was going to LA to do Amelie, as D is already planning to get tickets for it.

I would just like to resurrect this to say I have a major crush on Jonathan Groff. I never listened to Frozen or watched Glee so I had no idea who he was but MAN, what a voice, and cute to boot. Yeah, I know he’s gay, whatever. Anyone with me?

@pizzagirl, yes, he is adorable. He is a friend of my D who is an actor and I can tell you that he is as sweet as he comes across on stage and on tv. Have you seen him in Looking or in A Normal Heart? You’ll love him even more. I have seen him onstage in several shows and he is one of those rare individuals whose acting is effortless. He’s a gem.

I never even heard of Looking or A Normal Heart. So he’s just all new to me!! Glad he’s a nice guy!

I saw Jonathan Groff in Spring Awakening on Broadway (OBC). He was excellent. My daughter will be performing with him next month.

Well, tell her to tell him that some 51-year-old suburban woman in Chicago thinks he’s cute and has a great voice. And if he wants to turn not-gay, I’ll volunteer to help. I’m sure he’ll think - oh, wow, a 51 yo woman. That’s an offer I can’t refuse! LOL. Seriously - how cool for your d, to be hanging around such folk!

D has been a huge fan of Jonathan Groff since she saw Spring Awakening as a HS student so he has been on my radar for awhile.

@Pizzagirl If you knew soozie’s D, you’d know that those folk would think it was cool to hang around with her!

You are too kind, @alwaysamom. My daughter still is in awe of some really great people she has gotten to perform with and meet. As well, some really famous people are singing her original songs as of late, which is a thrill.

Got tickets for Feb 2017 in NYC, a nice Valentine’s Day present! I think they are decent seats, too.

I’m so excited every time I see that one of our cc’ers got tickets. It’s that good!

It seems that, in addition to the Chicago gig, LA and San Francisco dates have already been announced, there will be a touring version of Hamilton out for the 2017-2018 season. Nederlander/Bwy San Diego announced that Hamilton will be part of next year’s (2017-2018) season…of course, they are encouraging people to subscribe to the 2016-2017 season in order ensure that they will have seats available for the 2017-2018 season.

Call me a sucker, but I bit the bullet…I figure that the 2 subscriptions together will probably and up costing what single tickets for Hamilton would cost (and that’s assuming that there will be single tickets available!). Besides, it seems like a decent season…

Chicago is a sit-down production. The tour will start in San Francisco in March 2017 and there have been somewhere around 20 cities booked so far. I don’t think that theatres should be suggesting/encouraging/making people subscribe for two seasons in advance so that they can get tickets. That, in my opinion, is taking advantage.

LoveTheBard - that’s what they initially said about Chicago, that you’d have to buy season tickets / be a subscriber to be assured Hamilton tickets, but it turned out not to be the case.

Given that it’s a short run and that tix don’t go on sale to the public until after subscription renewals, new subscriptions, and additional tix for subscribers are filled, I didn’t want to take a chance.

Besides, the way they jack up the prices, I’m paying nearly the same for a subscription (I was able to snag some of the very few offered at the lowest price level) as I anticipate the cost of single tix will be once they go on sale to the general public.

The rest of the season isn’t too shabby either (Cabaret, Peter and the Starcachers, Mathilde, etc. so no complaints).

Apparently they filmed Hamilton tonight for posterity. Jonathan Groff came back to play King George. One day way in the future it will hopefully come out of the vault at Gringots (as LMM says) for all to see.

The PBS documentary announcement said they would film it twice and some of the footage would be shown in the documentary which will air this fall. Would LOVE to see it all:)

They are now selling the box seats for the first part of the Chicago run. The are limited/obstructed view, but I bought a couple for a weekend when we planned to be in Chicago anyway. A post online said that about 1/8 of the stage can’t be seen from the boxes; at least we’ll be in the room where it happens.

^^^Ahh. I see.
