I remember reading…I think on this forum… that a major difference between the CSU education and a UC education is that the CSU system focuses more on experiential, hands-on learning while the UC system focuses on the theoretical. My D is interested in bio/animal science but is looking for an actively hands on curriculum. She knows that lectures are inevitable especially in lower division classes but is looking for a school where she can maximize her “learn by doing” experience. Does UCD fit that?

I can only speak from my experience taking the lower division biology series (1A,1B,1C) which I believe recently became the 2 series.

1A has lecture and discussion, but not very much hands on stuff.
1B is extremely hands on, with 50% of the class grade being lab, where you deal with lots of different (live and dead) animals, and all sorts of fun stuff, probably my favorite class.
1C is like 1A, just different material.

fooshy

thanks fooshy. You don’t happen to know if a 4 on AP bio replaces 1A do you?

animal science 1 i milked a goat and a cow, tackled sheep, candled eggs, etc etc.

Every week was a different lab in at the Animal Science Teaching Facility.

Excellent class, ANS1 with Dr. Famula, HILARIOUS man, extremely intelligent

I don’t know what kind of credit AP Bio gives you (it might just be units).
