in my acceptance letter, there was a nice little hand-written note saying “we hope you bring your love of Greek dancing to HMC” near the bottom. This is a bit of a personal touch, since Greek dancing is very specific and I talked about it in my application, and it made my day (well, the acceptance made my day but this was the cherry on top).

did anyone else get a handwritten note? I suspect that since Mudd accepts so few students (in relation to other colleges), they do something like this for all the accepted. just wondering.

Yes! My daughter received her acceptance letter (we are on the east coast). The handwritten note was a very thoughtful touch. What is the best airport for travel to HMC?

Ontario airport - it is about 10 mins away. LAX is probably about an hours drive, though will be a cheaper flight, probably. From LAX, you can get an inexpensive shuttle bus to downtown LA - to the train station, and from there a train out to Claremont. Mudd is probably about a mile from the station. Difficult with a lot of luggage, but otherwise doable if money is an issue. I think the train/shuttle will cost about $10-12.

Ontario is a very easy airport to maneuver. LAX is a bit of a nightmare.

anotherparent - thanks for the airport info. I am concerned about the size of the airport. Fortunately, I have a friend out there who can pick her up.

I loved the handwritten note! Out of curiosity, does anyone know when Financial Aid Packages come out? Did anyone get one with their acceptance?

Do note, though, that Ontario is serviced by fewer airlines that fly in from fewer cities. If you dislike layovers, flying into LAX may be a better option.

Flying into LAX is never a good option unless you have relatives willing to drop everything and drive you 1-2 hours across LA, or you’re willing to get a rental car (aka traveling with parents). You should also consider that you might spend 30 minutes more waiting for baggage at LAX than you would at Ontario.

A taxi from LAX will run you $100 or more. A Super Shuttle is ~$60 but will take much longer because you’ll be the last stop. Transportation from Ontario is $30 cab, or $20 Super Shuttle. And if you’re flying in for Admitted Students Weekend, it should be easy to find other prospies to share a cab from Ontario.
