Getting the FA package from ds2’s school and knowing he could attend his dream school. Also, learning ds1 has been dating someone for a few months. He’s never dated, and I just like knowing that he’s open to that in his life.

When my mom texted me (I was in RA training all day so she couldn’t call me right away) to say that my dad had gotten out of surgery and would be released the following day.

Oh man - many! Camping trip w/ DH to the Grand Canyon, phone call with DD after overturn of DOMA, family wedding in NYC, visit to Ct to help DD set up apartment, nuclear family Thanksgiving with both kids home for a week. It has been a wonderful year. :-)

My wife’s physician telling us her cancer was removed by the chemo. Five o’clock on the day I retired. My sons college graduation, and later getting his first job.

I have two favorite moments for 2013:

My D graduating from medical school in May. Eight and a half years of school down, three to four years of residency and fellowship to go.

My visit to Giverny in France to see Monet’s house and gardens. I went with my sister and my 84-year-old mom, who wanted to see the gardens.

Both times were highlights of my entire life.

I too am ready for 2013 to go…but my best memory is s1 getting engaged. After a very patient 6 year wait by his gf, he Finally bought a ring. He picked it out all by himself and then it laid in my safe for 3 weeks. I told him he’d better make the proposal memorable and he did. I’ll never forget the joy and excitement on her face when she ran in the house to tell me.

Both my boys bought houses this year. Exciting, but very exhausting on the remodeling and moving.

Nice idea, zoosermom.
My happiest, and most proud, moment in 2013 was learning that my D, a second year resident, saved a man’s life with help from an intern. I am tearing up again as I type.

Almost forgot.
:o
When I was recovering from my knee transplant & H was waiting on me hand & foot for over a week.
I felt very loved.

S2 telling us that he’s decided to quit his [entirely not for him] job and go to graduate school.

S1 telling me that he’s been seeing someone for six months.

DH being asked to stay on after the holidays at his seasonal job.

Becoming grandparents for the first time!

^^ Can’t imagine anything sweeter. My siblings are all grandparents and are so happy.

D1 got engaged, D2 finished her masters degree, D3 earned her BS, D3 receiving her Peace Corps nomination (happy for her but took a while for me to be really happy!) plus 2 occasions when all six of us could get together! Great year :)

Ok, just posted several things because I couldn’t pick one. Just remembered the happiest memory- when DS told me he had quit smoking. So happy about that!

it was a good year for us:

My daughter’s wedding–beautiful ceremony, fabulous party, and the happiness of seeing her so happy.

Getting three stories accepted for publication–maybe I’ll have that little tiny career after all?

And just last week, S getting accepted back into school–seeing him so thrilled to be going back.

2013 was a very good year for us:

Best Christmas ever, just wonderful in tiny delightful ways, especially watching the kids who used to tease each other instead working to find funny creative gifts for each other. So much love & laughter & everything just went so well.

Fantastic family trip with all 6 of us to a far away place to watch DD get her graduate degree. Woo-Hoo.

Med student DD getting more than and better than expected residency interviews.

Silly little thing, loving my fitbit inspiring me to exercise a little more every day.

Son called me to tell me he was moving to a small town for a full time job in his field.

Celebrating my 50th birthday with DH and 3 friends who also turned 50. We each celebrated on our own birthdays with small get togethers and the highlight was a huge group party.

Successfully returning to work after years of being a SAHM.

The morning after I got engaged. The event itself was actually kind of stressful since fiance picked a giant fight with me earlier in the day to throw me off the trail (jerk). And then once I realized it was a ruse and he really had just proposed, I was just kind of exhausted and in shock and we spent three hours on the phone informing relatives instead of really getting to sit with it and letting it sink in. Waking up the next morning with the ring on my finger and spending the rest of the day at the beach with my parents staring at it and discussing wedding plans was like something out of a dream.

2014 is looking to be the most amazing year of my life to date. I can’t wait to answer this question a year from now.

D’s wedding day, and two months later Thanksgiving dinner at her and her husband’s new home with our nuclear family and her new mother-in-law as the guests. The newlyweds performed a beautiful piano/flute duet for their guests that brought tears to my H’s eyes. Joy and thankfulness abounded.

Also, when S told me that his long-time girlfriend told him how much she appreciated how we treated her like a member of the family during the wedding weekend. Brought tears to my eyes as she is not usually very expressive. (Plus he passed on that she loved my dress – thanks again, chocchipcookie!) Perhaps some day she will work up to saying such things to me! ;)

When D2 called about a month in to her freshman year of college to tell me how much she LOVES her school. She is the proverbial square peg, and there were days when I thought there honestly wasn’t a college match for her. I was holding my breath about whether the fit was right until then. She is very challenged academically (too challenged in some areas), but is determined and motivated to make it work.
