Happy earth day

Didn’t want to revive old threads so decided to start a new one. We just went to a recycling event and brought 6 boxes of files to the shredder. Now we are off to the science day march to hear a friend’s daughter speak. What are others doing for these events today?

My kid just sent photos from the Chicago march. My husband and I have family obligations so nothing themed for us.

I marched in the Women’s March, but I’m just watching the coverage today from home. I hope the turnout is good and I appreciate those who are standing up for science, especially given the yucky weather in some key locations. The investments we make in scientific research pay so many dividends, both in financial growth and in improved quality of life. Yay, rah science people!

I’ve had sciatica this past week, so standing and marching are not in my plans, but S1 is likely attending a march where he lives in CA. He’s a scientist, so heavily invested in the cause. I’m not sure if S2, a non-scientist, is attending in DC. He did attend the women’s march though.

Nothing planned, but I’ll try to make up for it by getting organized about the things that have to be taken to a special recycling - disposal center. Giving myself a deadline! Thanks for the nudge.

I’m enjoying a solitary day with the dogs and cats, watching the rain transform everything to a miraculous, stunning green.

Daughter is away at a competition, and my normally non-activist-chemist-prof husband is slogging away at the Capitol march somewhere too, @jym626, with a bus-load of college students that he organized for the trip.

My D is organizing events at an Earth Day celebration; I had planned to join a beach clean up but it was postponed on account of rain. Will be next week instead.

Good for your husband, @inthegarden ! We just got back for the march. Ran into friends and marched with them for several blocks. There were so many clever signs. My s, both engineers, had very different days planned. One was in one city, on his was to march. The other was in another city , and said “oh that was what all the noise was downtown”.
:open_mouth:

Memories of the original Earth Day and the HS club (was not a member) circa late 1960’s to early 1970’s. The Wisconsin senator Gaylord Nelson was the originator as I remember. Proud of that. Take it for granted. Glad the concept spread.

Marched for science in DC yesterday. :D. And had a great long weekend with D1 and her BF.

Marched locally—beautiful day in SoCal for it.

Marched in Austin. Great crowd.

Marched for science with some HS alum friends in morning/early afternoon. Great turnout with marchers ranging from young toddlers with parents to seniors. One interesting thing was the New Yorker cartoon portraying the numerical disparity between Science Marchers and Alternative Facts Marchers seriously overestimated the latter.

When we marched past one of the Yuge one’s properties, there was only a grand total of 3 people counter-demonstrating vs the miles-long multitude of Science Marchers. Not too surprisingly, when the former yelled “Shut up” and “Go Away”, didn’t take much for them to be drowned out by the latter group.

Also, several older alums and random marchers asked me what college I was attending and had a hard time believing I graduated nearly 2 decades ago.

Marched in LA. Gorgeous day, thousands of people, excellent speakers and some really clever signs.

I loved the signs too. Very witty. Lots of puns and double entendres. Love clever wit.

DH and I marched in Chicago. DS marched in Ithaca, NY. We sent pictures back and forth throughout so we could march as a family.

Weather was beautiful here too. Nice day for a march. Sadly, it got very little press locally. That makes me sad.

There was a big march in HI too, tho I wasn’t part of it.
