<p>it was proposed by wisconsin senator gaylord nelson during a visit to the west coast in 1969 and was first celebrated in 1970</p>
<p>earth day is important…it made recycling popular in the early '90s and it brought attention to global warming in the late '90s…recently earth day has spread around the globe, and is now celebrated in more than 150 countries</p>
