… to all the great Dads out there! Hope you are having a wonderful day.
How did you spend yours? Us - BBQ and Baseball!

H did a 50 mile bike ride this morning with one of my company’s senior VPs and has been playing with some new electronic toy (some advanced DVD player/recorder) he bought himself. He had to fix my lunch, since I am back on crutches/brace, and we are going to see Knocked Up. What more could a father want? D called him and WildChild is going to the movies with us (fortunately, WC has no life here in Nashville yet).

HAPPY FATHER’S DAY!!!

Hope it’s been a nice and relaxing one for all! :)

Dh woke up to a decorated cookie cake for breakfast rofl from the kidlets. Several are out working today, but tonight, we will have a nice dinner together as a family----BBQ!!! And the kids will give their dad a few little gifts! :D

~berurah

Normally we go to the grandfolks for dinner with the whole extended fam. Usually there’s lots of tension on my (dysfunctional) side; either somebody not helping out with dinner like they should, or somebody calling at the last minute to cancel, etc.

This year, we’re celebrating 2 weeks late, due to conflicting schedules (who in their right mind schedules a dance recital on Father’s Day???) We’re all home here (except D, who is still at work but will be home for dinner). I am preparing for D’s graduation party next Sun. so I am doing some last minute Spring cleaning. Other than that, just relaxing. Very nice; we should do this every year!

I’m enjoying a family tradition. Doing exactly only what I want. No chores, no honeydo’s, no “Dad can you…”

It’s a tradition my own father started many moons ago when he insisted that while he was a father 364 days a year, Father’s Day should be his. No surprise dinners, no lines at restaurants, nothing planned. It gave him a chance to do his own thing, unencumbered.

My wife and kids have allowed me the same luxury. Yesterday, my daughter slipped and asked what I was planning to cook for dinner today. My piercing stare quickly reminded her not to tread on tradition.

My H has gone to the Outer Banks to visit his Dad who has been hospitalized this week but was sent home yesterday just in time for Father’s Day.

On his way back home today H is stopping by S1’s college apartment to have dinner with him.

S2 and I will see him when he gets home tonight with my Mother’s Day present and his Father’s Day present (to ourselves!) in the back of the truck, a set of Adirondack chairs from the OBX.

Packmom,
Oh, those Adirondack chairs sound nice.
H and I spent the afternoon by the pool reading/napping. The kids were swimming for a while then they went surfing at the beach. H and I went to my mom and dad’s house, visited.

We’re getting  pizza and rotisserie chicken tonight!

What a bad mom/wife I am. :(

Happy Father’s Day to everyone!!

Speaking of Aidirondack chairs, my H received a red tie with tiny white Adirondack chairs all over it - my daughter called it an “I’d rather be on vacation” tie. We had a picnic on the patio, grandmas, kids and all.
An ideal SoCal summer Sunday - not a cloud in the sky, light breeze, temp around 75 degrees.

Everyone has gone home now, and H is putting up the feet and watching the end of the U.S. Open. Nice day, all around.

Happy Father’s Day to all you great dads on CC.

A kid made dinner was due to start a half hour ago but it does smell great!

Kids chipped in for a 2G ipod nano for dad, and spent loads of time downloading all of his favorite (mainly rock) tunes for him to listen to in the car. He LOVES it!

Happy father’s day!

H coached S2’s All Star Tournament team all weekend–he loved it! Best tournament he’s ever coached!! S2’s team had 3 shutout wins. They played to a 0-0 tie in the championship game, but lost by one in a PK shootout!! :(

Still a fun weekend for H!!! Great group of kids!

HAPPY FATHERS’ DAY TO ALL OF OUR CC DADS AND DH’S

OMG, Irish, HOW TOTALLY AWESOME!!! CONGRATS to your husband and his fabulous team!!! What a wonderful accomplishment and a great Father’s Day present from his very talented All-Star Tournament team!
:)

Thanks, berurah!!!

Yep, he deserves lots of praise (and so do the kids for playing their hearts out on a couple of hot days!) DH has been coaching house league soccer for about 10 years–first our D’s team, then S2’s, with a little bit of “assisting” with S1’s team when he was in HS. Our Dukie, S1, helped out his junior and senior years in HS, and still comes to be a visiting coach whenever he’s home from Duke!! It is a labor of love, spring and fall. I love going to the games to cheer. Just as you have your “adopteds”, these kids and our swim team kids (that’s my job!) are our “adopteds”!!

Irish~

Wish you were here to cheer for my brood in their various activities!!! There is just NO ONE better!!! {{{{{hugs!!!}}}}} :)

DH likes beef so I did a London Broil on the grill. Found a great marinade recipe online w/“everything” in–Worcestershire sauce, mustard, rosemary, red wine vinegar, pepper, etc. After 24 hours in that, this meat was so tender & tasty! DH was very happy. :)

Another made-up holiday like mothers day and valentines day. OTOH I did get a really cool Tommy Bahama shirt from my wife. Will be wearing it next week in Aruba.

berurah~your kids may not really want me there to cheer (though I’d LOVE to do it for them!!!) I do have a reputation (but limit my cheering to ONLY positive/encouraging comments!!), and my kids (and adopteds) are resigned to it! I know you are an equally (and probably better!!!
) cheerleader for your crew!!!

Three children -
S #1 - working out-of-town
D - Africa
S #2 - Central America
Dad - watching the last day of the US Open on television.

Speaking of watching sports on TV, one of Hs Father’s Day gifts was a hit- I added the baseball lineup to our satellite TV service. Since we already do get local baseball on a couple of our TV sets that are still hooked up to cable, I thought it was just to be able to watch the local games on the rest of the sets in the house. What I didn’t realize is that it’s not just one channel - we now get EVERY baseball game and several baseball channels! I think I just did myself in! At least I am a pretty big baseball fan, too.
