Happy Independence Day!
How are you planning to celebrate this extended weekend? Do you have any favorite 4th of July traditions? Let us know!
DS/DIL are celebrating with us at the cabin for the fourth year in row. We start with Bloody Mary’s on the porch and end with lobster on the table.
Just a plain old picnic…and helping with a triathlon which happens tomorrow. Always fun!
H and I are paying golf and having dinner with friends – will wear red/white/blue. Going to local fireworks on Sunday.
My husband is working all weekend, 6a-6p. My mom passed away June 18th, so I’m taking care of her affairs and sorting through her house. So, not a very happy holiday here. But, I’m sure my neighbors will be setting off fireworks until the wee hours, so that will make it feel like the Fourth.
(edited because I hit Reply accidentally)
Apparently with some old fireworks we found in the back of a closet.
So this may be my last post for a while . . . .
By posting to my social media accounts every relevant clause of the Declaration of Independence, one at a time, every couple of hours, starting yesterday (there are a lot of relevant clauses).
Potluck/Grill out at friends’ house tonight, followed by fireworks! My husband has a couple more complex meals he wants to make this weekend (I am the “everyday” cook but he loves special projects like homemade pizza and meals made in the smoker). I think I made 4 shopping stops to get ingredients between yesterday and today…and unfortunately need 1 more stop since none of the 4 stores I already visited had one particular ingredient he needs.
Not celebrating to be honest.
By reading the Declaration of Independence.
The YMCA was open till 3, so went to my regular exercise program (which was surprisingly full - shows that not many had plans) and then played Mahjong in the afternoon. So regular Friday.
Then I was about to drive to my daughter’s to water her veggie garden (they are camping) but my brother saw me leaving and he drove me and then bought me a hot fudge sundae (it’s my birthday). Then I watched the Pops on TV and now I’m listening to pops and bangs of all the illegal fireworks. I can’t see anything but can hear them.
No fireworks that explode or leave the ground are legal, so I know they are all illegal (even sparklers are illegal in Denver) but this year has been a lot better than most. We had neighbors who put on a display worthy of Macy’s Spectacular in the past, but they moved and the dogs are grateful for that..
I had a really great day. Younger S/FDIL2 came to town late last night. H had to work 6-2. I got up the usual time and worked out and was back home by 8 in time to eat breakfast before the kids got up.
When they got up we just chatted for the morning except when they left to get coffee and visit H at work. Early afternoon they left to go to a gathering a S’ friend’s lake house where they will spend the night. We joke that he’s still having sleepovers with the same kids since kindergarten! It’s great to see.
But this allowed me to get the 2 hour nap that my body desperately needed. H after work went to a party at a friends house for a couple of hours, so I had more blissful time to myself to practice piano. He came home and conked out so I read my book.
Since he ate lunch late, I didn’t have to make dinner, so we snacked on whenever. We watched the finale of parks and rec (our first time seeing the series is now complete).
At 9:15 we headed downtown to see the fireworks. Something we haven’t done in years. It started at 9:30 and lasted 20 min. We were home by 10. Easy peasy. You would think a crowd hater and noise sensitive person would hate fireworks, but I love the big displays. We were <0.2 mile from where they set them off so it is loud. I do hate homemade backyard ones however. Fortunately I haven’t heard too much of that this year.
