Happy Left Handers Day!

I didn’t know that Juniata College offers a $1,500 scholarship to deserving lefties. A St. Lawrence study showed that there are more left-handers with IQ’s over 140 than right-handers. If you are seeking a college major then supposedly many lefties excel in architecture, graphic design, painting, writing, music, politics, video games, and chess.

20% of Mensa members are left handed. 25% of Apollo astronauts were left handed. 40% of cats are left pawed. 50% of dogs are left pawed. 100% of polar bears are left pawed. According to Steve Jobs, almost all of the really great technical people in computers are left handed. Steve Jobs, Bill Gates, Steve Wozniack, and Mark Zuckerberg are lefties. Robin Williams threw right handed but golfed left handed and hit a baseball left handed.

Lots of folks in our law school were lefties–much more than statistics would ordinarily predict. Have heard many also in med school. ;)

Waving hi and cutting the celebration cake with my left hand!!! :)

You know…after years of being told there are left-handed scholarships, I must say it was a large let down to hear it’s from one college whose tuition is in the mid 30s…

6 out of 8 of these listed are things I excel in or my hobbies. Have always been creative and artistically inclined.

Yay lefties! My daughter and I were just talking about this today (both Ds are left-handed like me), and I was wondering if the percentage of the population that is left-handed has gone up now that students are no longer “encouraged” to be right-handed.

^ ^ ^ ^

You better not let any Franciscan nuns hear you say that! They pack a mean rosary bead.

It should. In some countries left-handers make up around 20% of the population. That is unusual to have both of your daughters lefties since it’s more common among boys.

Another leftie here (and DS#2 and DS#1’s fiancee) waving hi!

My BIL is ambidextrous–operating with BOTH hands. My brother USED to be left-handed but was forced by my grandmother to switch to right (she started on me too late or I was too stubborn and am still a leftie). Bro is also an MD but has pretty awful handwriting.

Some of the left-handers who have made enormous contributions to our lives:

Aristotle, Bob Dylan, Charlemagne, Mark Twain, Alexander The Great, Walt Disney, Isaac Newton, Richard Pryor, Julius Caesar, Gandhi, Napoleon, Joan of Arc, Oprah, Leonardo Da Vinci, Marie Curie, Lewis Carroll, Don Rickles, Mozart, Bill Gates, Michelangelo, W. C. Fields, Charles Darwin, Charlie Chaplin, Picasso, Beethoven, H. G. Wells, Henry Ford, Ben Franklin, Steve Jobs, Thomas Jefferson and several other Presidents, Nietzsche, Albert Einstein, John D. Rockefeller, Steve Wozniack, Nicola Tesla, Eudora Welty, numerous athletes, Kermit The Frog, and Jim Henson

I have an oddity contribution: born left-handed but had to become right-handed due to an accident and am now a complete mix of left and right behaviors and uses. Mom and a brother are true lefty only no right hand at all.
