I’ve been on this board since my D was a freshman. She’s now a junior in HS and the realization has hit that this new year means we’re seriously beginning the process! It’s time to finalize her list of schools, last chances for ACT/SAT tests, visit schools in spring and summer so she has knows what’s what before auditions in fall…

I just want to thank all of you for all the wonderful info you have shared. And if you have any advice to offer for us as we really get into the process, I’d very much appreciate it. Here are some stats/what she’s looking for/beginning list of schools:

Stats:
ACT: 30 (E-35; M-32; R-29; S-24); SAT 1980 (will take ACT again)
GPA: 4.0; Weighted (.5APs;.25Hs) 4.7
Max Honors; 3APs jr year; 4APs sr year
Dance Team 3 years; Beta/NHS 3 years, officer; Band 2 years
Talented Theatre 4 years; Community Theatre 7 years
Dance 13 years (jazz, pointe ballet, lyrical, hip hop)
School productions: Marcy Park in Spelling Bee last year; Audrey in Little Shop this year!

Wants for program:
-SE US
-Not cut program
-strong dance
-either BA or BFA okay
-liberal arts setting, not conservatory
-showcase or other method of connecting for jobs
-strong record of grads working (in NY or regionally)
-honors program can work with theatre major
-good merit aid (we won’t qualify for need based)

List thus far:
-CCU (dream school)
-UCF (close to Disney, which she would LOVE)
-Texas St-San Marcos (dream school…)
-FSU (we know not strong in merit aid, but…)
-Alabama
-Western Carolina
-Memphis (brand new program)
-Ole Miss (was safety but now audition after freshman year…not crazy about this)
-Southern Miss (financial and audition safety, MT “track”)
-Oklahoma (not SE, but south)
-Catawba

She is applying for several summer programs to see how good she really is and to see if she can compete on a regional basis. That will give us an idea of how strongly we should pursue this…

Thanks again for all your great advice!!!
