Happy New Year to Parents (who are also midnight limo chauffeurs)!

Happy 2012!

I’m on call for post-New Year’s pickup. When did I switch from celebrating New Years Eve myself to making sure my kids are having an enjoyable evening? Even though I love getting out, this evening my H and I watched a movie and stayed in with the dog and I had a nice relaxing evening. Am I finally mature or just old? It doesn’t matter, I still enjoyed myself.

Happy New Year to you, Snowflake! I’m jealous. Baby is celebrating NY in NYC with her friends. Big kiddo is celebrating NY with her hubby. My chauffeuring duties are over. :(

:(? Really? Party time!!!

I told S2 to sleep over at his friends house (it is all girls and him so should be interesting). S1 is at a party with his high school chums. 4 of them left their cars at our house - so now I have to be vigil about who drives home and who stays over. How did my mother ever survive my party years?

S got the chauffeur, D got the sleepover, and H and I realized this is the first time in 20 years that we didn’t have kids on board for New Years. New Year’s Res - more fun! ;)

Last year baby D was the designated driver for her friends who went to a frat party. When she came home at 3 am, I gave her a big hug. My GC/MS nose detected no traces of acetaldehyde or alcohol, just D&G 3. I gave her another hug and patted myself on the back: good job, mom and dad! :)

Oldest, I have no idea where or what he is doing. H & I stopped by a couple of parties earlier and dropped youngest off where he’ll stay all night. We were in well before the ball dropped. But I did get off of the computer long enough to give H a kiss at midnight.

My chick is out of the nest and celebrating New Years out-of-town with friends.

But I used to be the silent chauffeur who drove the teenagers around to parties and what-not. I enjoyed every minute of hearing the jokes and banter in the back seat. I even enjoyed drinking coffee in the car or in a diner until time to pick them up to go back home. They were all good kids and I hope they have a great life.

I do dread when they will celebrate New Years Eve in another city someday, so I will cherish our New Years Day dinner together today. S is a senior in HS and D is a junior in college, and will be 21 next NYE, so I know it will be too soon. Still, I’m with Sylvan, New Year’s resolution … more fun for me!

This was D’s first “over 21” New Year’s eve. <smirks sneakily=""> She had her wisdom teeth out on Friday morning. I didn’t have to worry about her this year. Next year? She’ll probably be out on her own, in another city… :(</smirks>

S spent the evening here, with his friends…I love that.

Happy 2012 everyone!

I drove my D2 back to school yesterday. We had a nice visit- and a couple of her roommates were there. ( she has 4).
This was her first over 21 New Years, but she isn’t a big drinker & she didn’t know what she was going to be doing. I was surprised though that she wanted to back to school, usually she celebrates with her friends in Seattle.
( H & I were in bed by 10pm- but we had been out till 2am the night before)
