I am going to be a freshman at Boston College High School next year…I am happy with the decision I made but do you all think I could have gotten into any of the more prestigious prep schools.

Some Facts about me…

Straight A’s with two b’s in English and Science in the major subjects(English, Math, Social Studies, Science, Spanish). *my school splits the grades into different categories such as homework and tests quizzes for each subject.

I struggle in the arts and i got a B- in both general music and painting and drawing.

I did not take the SSAT but I took a test called the HSPT(Catholic High School Test) and scored in the 99th percentile.

I was on the baseball team and participated in the model UN.

What I’ve learned from participating in an intense application season to prep schools this year, is that one should come into the process with an open mind, expecting the unexpected. Most of us here on CC are not admissions officers, and therefore we can’t compare you to other candidates, we can’t properly evaluate your stats, and we cannot interview you. (Interviews provide admissions officers with LOTS of important info, offten changing a candidate’s status from Rejected to W/L, or W/L to IN.) Even if some of us ARE admissions officers, it is unlikely that they can decide right off the bat with the info you’ve provided whether you would’ve be admitted or not.

That being said, I can’t give you an accurate, honest answer to your question. (And I’m pretty sure nobody else here on CC can either.) :(

I’m sorry if this is dissapointing news to you, but you may consider asking yourself: if I’m happy with the school I’m attending, why should I be worrying about whether or not I can get into other schools aswell?

Thanks for your feedback luckyduckyme…I am very happy about where I will be attending school in the fall so i guess thats all that matters. My parents wouldn’t want to pay that much money to go a boarding school anyways. I guess my question is, How do I compare to those of you on CC that into a HADES school?

The EC “list” and standardized test scores are NOTHING once you’ve passed a certain line, i.e. you have some ECs and your SSAT scores are above 85%.

Admission officers don’t “compare” people. They look for different students with unique experience. Do they just look at the # of your ECs and your grades?

How many years have you been on the baseball team? How dedicated are you? Have you attended any MUN conferences? What have you learnt? Have your grades improved?

If you think prep schools offer something that your current school doesn’t, go for it! It doesn’t hurt to apply and you will get a feeling of college app.

Once you decided, stop posting “chance” threads here. Choose schools, figure out what you want and polish your essays.

By the way, private boarding schools offer financial aid.

Good luck!
