Hardcore Dukie chances?

<p>Yes, I really am obsessed.</p>

<p>How does a sub-1500 score (very close to the 1500 mark), EC's in Debate (awards, captain, yadda yadda), Writing (asst. ed. in chief of a teen city newspaper, founder of bulletin at my school, argumentative essay HS awards, etc.), Spanish (state oratorical awards, highest average for the past 4 years, tutoring, likely SHS president), and Science (lots of summer research/research training programs (not RSI-worthy, though, of course), Governor's school state semi in Bio, research assistant, Science Olympiad, you get the deal) look for ED to Trinity?</p>

<p>I also founded funraising, student-led organizations (we do annual bake sales to raise $ for the RMH and American Cancer Society) at a local hospital.</p>

<p>Do I look like I tried to hard in HS? I'm passionate about a lot of things. And I never did anything for the sake of a resume. </p>

<p>I'm an Asian female from GA. 4.0 UW, higher W.
Top 2-4% of class (either 1, 2, 3, or 4 of 88).</p>

<p>Creative, metaphorical essay. Good recs. Sending in their optional essay (one page about me from a relative or friend) with one from my sister and my debate coach/soph. english teacher. They should be pretty good. </p>

<p>Yeah you look good to me. Relax! Just get the app in and leave the rest to the admin officers. I'm gonna apply ED too, <em>crosses fingers</em> but I have it harder than you guys cos I'm an intl- some heckofa competitive pool. :| Good luck!</p>

<p>I think you appear very well rounded and as blaineko said ED will be a huge boost. Ur governor's school, summer research, and bake sail fundraising really stand out. Ur essay also sounds creatvie, but can't be sure. Gl and if possible plz respond to my post Am I Ordinary TY</p>

<p>You have a good chance. Make sure your essay focused on you and not just the metaphor. Your ECs don't seem to lend to any specific passion, but at least you've been considerably involved in them. You're a solid candidate for sure, though I'm sure you're aware there are no guarantees. Duke admits people and not numbers; you've got numbers but your ECs, essays, and recommendations have to do the rest, so it's vital that the essay portrays you as more than just a good writer.</p>

<p>Frost is right. Asians are an overrepresented minority, not an underrepresented minority like African Americans or Latin Americans.</p>

<p>Ay_caramba- even though i didn't elaborate on it in the post (the self-titled "laundry list" i gave), my passions are debate and science. I've been debating since I entered high school, and I've trained all the kids that are now in it. I make my own affirmatives, organize meetings, always attend debate institutes during the summer, and have a won a fair amount of awards. I emphasized this in my essay as well.</p>

<p>The essay, except for the first line of each paragraph, is alllll about me. I wanted to breathe some humanity into the numbers, EC's, etc. I'm sending a little extra something with it as well (not a bribe or anything- just ties in with the idea).</p>

<p>Oh, I have a part-time job as well (at abercrombie kids). I know it probably won't help me, but, alas...</p>

<p>Everything looks great, and I personally think you have a VERY good chance of getting accepted. Just a couple questions, you may of answered them earlier, but I just didn't catch them.</p>

SAT IIs/ACT results?</p>

<p>Again though, I think you have a great chance. It sounds like you have a very good essay with good ec's and grades/test results to back it up. Best of luck to you.</p>

<p>having a job is always a plus because of the fact that it shows you can handle several pulling forces at once (job, school, ECs, social life, etc), and I would definitely include that in the application somewhere.</p>

<p>as an applicant, you're better than average, but not stellar. With your recommendations, you'll have a pretty good chance in getting in.</p>

<p>ahh i see. CB is really bad w/ adminstrative and just clerical duties sometimes.</p>

<p>ANyways applying ED helps to show commitment to duke. However, the other side is that you're compared against many more dedicated people.</p>

<p>So if you're a super hardcore Duke fan, you can show off your dedication in your Application. </p>

<p>But if you're not sure about duke, or thinking about other schools, applying ED might weaken your application because it forces you to compete with the super hardcore Duke above all else applicant.</p>

<p>But from your first statement "Yes, I really am obsessed." applying early shouldn't hurt. Best of luck, and maybe i'll see you on campus some time.</p>
