harder to get into 2nd choice college?

i cant decided if MCS or H&SS is my first choice. i am a very borderline applicant.

if i put H&SS and my second choice would i have a greater chance of being rejected or vice versa. what are the rankings of the colleges used for, why not just allow kid to apply to anyones they want without asking them to rank

mcs is rumored to be much more difficult to get into than h&ss

This is probably a little late, but…

When I asked an admissions rep this, they said that your rank would not affect your chances. They need to ask for ranks in order to know how many spots they’re filling for each college.

EDIT: and MCS is harder to get into than H&SS

If I’m not mistaken, both colleges have acceptance rates around 50%. I’ve heard that H&SS is the easiest to get into, followed by MCS. So…I wouldn’t worry.

Let us look at the admission statistics from last year…

H&SS 2,416 1,288

MCS 2,774 1,424

53% and 51% respectively… not much of a difference ;)

It’s probably better to look at the SAT scores. While they may accept the same percentage of applicants, their statistics may be different.

Not that big of a difference here either. Also, remember there is more to an application than your SAT score.

SATs give a pretty good representation of “applicant quality,” in my opinion.

As do plenty of other factors. ;)
