Is it just me or are there some really tricky and confusing topics in ap bio test like heredity, photosynthesis, and respiration reactions? What topics do you find to be the hardest?

Honestly, those aren’t too bad. Keep in mind, they are a lot of information, but you just have to memorize it.
Also, the questions for photosynthesis and respiration are fairly straigh forward, as a opposed to some other topics.

Personally, I dislike the kingdoms, phylums, etc. This is mainly because there is tooooo much to memorize.

I never took AP Bio but from my reading of biology, I can say that Biochemistry is the hardest topic.

Biochemistry is crazy easy if you have some semblance of a chemistry background, even if it is just Honors or Academic Chemistry.

oddly enough, photosynthesis and respiration were pretty hard for me :-/. I had a pretty hard time getting everything straight on those 2 units.

Yeah, in AP Biology, the biochemistry is extremely basic.

BIOMASTER reporting. yeah everything in ap bio is pretty learnable…but when it comes to upper level or advanced stuff, here are some challenging topics:

metabolism- as a whole can get pretty weird, in advanced levels you have to know a LOT of chemistry (advanced/applied kinetics, thermodynamics, electrochem) and it gets pretty hairy

genetics- of all species (prokaryotic or eukaryotic) can be difficult to research. once youve learned mendelian genetics, you kind of have to throw it away a ltitle because there are so many specialized ways traits can get passed on. especially when you get into genomic manipulation and true laboratory genetics, stuff can get confusing. once again, knowledge of chem is essential here.

evolutionary biology- knowing all the names of common taxa and being able to classify by sight gets difficult. if youre involved in USABO, you know that they recommend knowing some common insect orders like lepidoptera, diptera, etc, but in upper level zoology you have to be able to know and recognize so many more

there are a lot of other difficult areas in biology. really, at the ap level, they keep biology and chemistry as very different sciences and probably the biggest difference ive seen between that and upper level classes is that biology and chemistry are integrated a lot. in biology classes you do a lot of chemistry and a lot of calculations and a lot of, well, math, and in chemistry you do a lot of applied stuff so they mix a lot. theres no biology without chemistry…lol

im taking the AP Bio test- self study…i hope there wont be any concepts that are REALLLLY challenging :-

as long as you have the right resources (cliffnotes to study and cambells as a referance- their diagrams are awesome!) and spend enough time on it, it’s not hard. my biggest mistake though was rushing and not really learning the material
