One time in Afghanistan, our family had an 8 hour road trip to a rural province for a vacation. It was a 4 car convoy consisting of our uncles, aunts, and other friends and family. So one of the cars broke down, and couldn’t be fixed. Our destination was 50 miles away with no houses between. Just mountains. It was the cusp of evening around 6 pm with the weather sharply becoming colder. So we decided to either hike and hope to catch a ride, or freeze to death. Naturally, the young men gave up their seats for the elder, and a troop of about 8 guys gathered. We covered ourselves with much clothing and we set out. No rides the whole way. Not a single car to be found. We hiked uphill, downhill, uphill, downhill the whole time. And guess what, it started snowing. So here we are, 8 guys bundled in clothing hiking uphill with snow falling in below 25 weather. I estimated we walked for 25 miles, until one of cars came back to fix the broken one. I did not stand up for 3 days.
