Harris Earns ECAC Track Athlete-of-the-Week Honors

CENTREVILLE, Mass. - One day after being recognized as the Patriot League Track Athlete of the Week, Navy junior Paul Harris (Woodbury, Minn.) has been selected the ECAC Track Athlete of the Week, it was announced by the conference office on Wednesday afternoon.

Harris is the first Midshipman to earn ECAC weekly honors on the track since Eric Porter on February 25, 2004.

In his first event of the afternoon against Princeton last Saturday, Harris won the 800-meter run with a time of 1:53.5, 2.5 seconds ahead of the second-place clocking. He has met the IC4A Championship qualifying standard in both meets this season, as he broke the school record in the event one month ago during the season opener.

The Woodbury, Minn., product came back to run the anchor leg of Navy’s 4x400-meter relay that won the event to give the Mids an 87-86 lead heading into the final event. Despite his shoe ripping in the opening stages of his first lap, Harris was able to complete the relay with an IC4A-qualifying mark of 3:19.4.

The Midshipmen (0-1) return to action this Saturday when they host American, Penn and VCU in Halsey Field House, starting at 11 a.m.
