for the 5th and 6th books, I pre-ordered from Amazon and got mine at around 2 a.m. so I’m hoping it happens again.

Did you really mean 2:00 AM?? Or should that have read PM?

lol I’m serious, the 5th one came at 2:30 A.M. and the 6th came at around 2:15 A.M.

it could be different this year though.

wow, 2:00 AM! I can’t think that suburbs will get that service (since all in our town go to sleep at midnight!) but hope springs eternal. UPS says her book was clocked in and out 3 different times in the past 24 hours within the city.
Does this take the place of those “watching for Santa” newscasts where they would show cheesey graphics of where St NIck was at a certain hour years ago?

dragonmom, my book has been clocked in and out all day too.

If the book might come in the middle of the night, maybe I should prop open the door to my apartment building (since the leasing office obviously isn’t open to accept packages). I mean, sure, my building could get broken into and I could be robbed blind, but it doesn’t matter if my book gets here unscathed, right? :D

and now i wait…

Maybe I should leave the outside lights on to the house and leave a note for UPS to ring the bell!!

My son just sent a text message that he was in line at Kroger but didn’t say how many were in line.

OK, he just said he was about 20th in line of about 50 people. There is only one register that is selling the book and someone in line was trying to buy flowers!! He said he wouldn’t mind the line as much if he at least had the book in his hand so that he could start reading.

^ that’s actually what I did for the past two books and it worked well.

My son will not be happy if UPS comes at 2:00 after he waits in line at Kroger for 30 minutes! We are just assuming that UPS will not be here until tomorrow afternoon. Oh well, as long as he gets his book he will be happy and tired!

12:28 and son just walked in with his copy. Daughter got hers at 12:01 and is on the way home from a friends house to beginning reading. I hope she doesn’t try to read while driving:-0

^ oh man, very lucky. I don’t know whether I should go to sleep now and read it in the morning or stay up for another few hours and wait for the delivery man.

well, sleep it is.

I will get the book from my local Target store sometime tomorrow morning. A Target salesperson told me that they are getting 700 copies of the book on top of pre-orders. (I didn’t know Target took pre-orders). The book will be slightly cheaper at Target than Barnes and Noble tomorrow.

My son has read part of the book on line (he couldn’t resist). I reminded him that it will be so much more fun turning real pages than clicking buttons. He is trying very hard to stay away from the temptation…

My Ds are getting their books in about an hour…they are at the something something ball, playing trivia, looking at the other people, wearing shirts they designed, and tey both showered just before they left, knowing they wouldn’t again until Sunday. My job is to provide food, beverages, and quiet.

THey have avoided the news, the internet etc…

And they like the crowds at the mall, for them its part of the whole event, seeing friends, and the creativity of some

We waited in line this morning to get a wrist band so tonight they won’t have to wait as long…sigh, I am a good mother, yes I am

So, a nice quiet, worry free weekend…with them each running to the others room when something amazing happens

Two books and one set of CD’s (hubster likes to listen at work–he works on a computer all day) and done by 12:15! That’s TWO midnight trips this week…one for the new 360 Live football game a few days ago and then this one for HP books. I’m ready for some sleep! ;)

Well, we decided to start a new tradition tonight and forego the Sam’s Club in the AM, and hit up our local grocery store… when I was there earlier, I saw they had set up a table for a midnight release. We went to see Hairspray, and hit the grocery store on our way home, but they were all gone already (maybe 12:30AM). So tomorrow at Sam’s Club it is.

The reason my daughter avoids the big parties/book store chains is because she doesn’t want someone shouting out any spoilers as they’re leaving and ruin it for her.

teriwtt~

I’m sorry that the grocery was out of the book by the time you got there. That must have been frustrating. We had gotten wristbands for two books at B&N, but I decided to try the local grocery store instead (we live in a small town and it would save quite a bit of time) and was able to get two copies there much faster and more easily than driving into the larger city where B&N is located.

My D wanted me to go without her so that there would be no risk of any spoilers. My nine-year-old son was pretty excited to stay up late and go with me though rofl.

I really hope that you have no trouble getting the book at Sam’s Club in the morning. GOOD LUCK!!

~berurah

I couldn’t go to the local B&N party- son and friends were there (the only time I went was before S and friends had car access, I can live without the crowds). Just heard laughter from upstairs- and I have to wait until son finishes the book, he said he may read it twice before I get my chance, I may have to wait until Monday! I’m not getting a second copy, especially since it’s been the same home scenario for the other 6 books. The one year we had Amazon deliver the book we thought we were going to be up north without bookstore access, but instead went to a bigger city and son had to wait for our return home; since then there have been enough copies available so I haven’t worried about availability.

Son just came downstairs (hungry), I asked him how the book was- he said Harry Potter died on the 3rd page- he did retract that statement (I am not THAT gullible). No spoiler here.

Son is the same age as Daniel Radcliffe- it’s been fun seeing the movies and reading the books with a son at the same stages in life. A college friend and I both saw the 5th movie at the same time in different cities this week and had fun discussing it. Son is waiting until after he reads the 7th book. And, as a teenager, he would never go to the movies with his mother or have a discussion with me.

D is on sofa, and I am waiting for other D…so the silence begins, It makes for a lovely calm weekend

S, H and I stood in line at our local bookstore at midnight last night, the last time of many. We read the first two chapters aloud in the car on the way home, and then crashed. We will read the rest aloud together, quite possibly our last read aloud in another long-cherished family tradition, since S leaves for college next month. Reading books aloud has been part of the core of our family life. (We did not stop when the kids became avid solo readers.) It does take some discipline not to peek ahead, though!

The UPS tracking has shown my copy sitting in the warehouse since 9:54 AM yesterday. It’s 6:45 AM on the 21st, I’m already up checking and it’s still in the warehouse. Guess I’ll have to do something else for a few hours. :-(
