You could take a drive over to the warehouse. :)

I waited in line at Krogers. Came at around 11:55 PM,there were about twenty to thirty people in front of me. As soon as midnight struck, they opened up a second cash register and everyone started running to it. Luckily I was the fourth person in the second cash register and somehow ended up getting my book before many of the people ahead of me in the original line. I just finished reading the book, and words cannot explain how amazing the book is. I hate spoilers and will not take away the joy of reading it from anyone, all i can say is that the book was truly well worth the wait.

anyone who ordered from amazon get theirs? this is so sad :-(

I am quite sure my kid in NYC got it at midnight. When I woke up today, her away message was “Harry.” I know when she went to NYC for summer, she talked about how she would get the book at midnight and sit in Central Park the next day reading it all. I guess that is what she must be doing.

Reports of “bedlam” at local, small Borders bookstore last night. Parking lot filled to capacity, overflowing to the mall parking about 300 yards away.
Standing room only.
Savvy shopper said she walked into Walmart and picked up a copy without any hassle.

This morning- stood in line with about 20 people at Target and walked out at 8;05 with my Potter obsessed 14 year old nephew!
What a great day :)

lolololollol

Our copy purchased from Amazon was delivered just before 9:00 am this morning. The UPS driver looked Harried (sorry). Much more my style, having the book delivered to the door after my first cup of coffee.

My daughter ordered one online from Amazon, too, but since her brother is staying with her during his summer internship, she went with him to purchase his copy from Barnes and Noble. She just wanted to enjoy the party.

My kids did the B and N party last night. S came home and read for a couple hours. At 7:30, I snuck into his room (with advance permission) and nicked his copy, careful to preserve his page. At 8:00, Santa, ur, the USPS guy, showed up with my Amazon order, and I snuck back in to return his book. D just called from her apartment to discuss guesses with whomever had gotten as far as her, which i haven’t. All conversations cryptic to allow for who’s where, and especially for H, who is content to wait for a finished copy.

:D

ldgirl and friends as well as my husband and son all did the Barnes and Noble Potter Party last night as well. It’s a tradition in our home (though I have to admit, I’ve only been a couple of times). I give my husband credit…he is such a good dad…he also took them to the first showing, at midnight, of the latest Potter movie even though he had to get up at 5:00 a.m. for a flight. The projector broke and the movie didn’t begin until 1:00 a.m…but he stuck it out! He never complains about all this, but I really think he enjoys the Potter mania just as much as the kids.

And poor ldgirl…she is very conflicted right now. She has her book in hand…but her final exam/paper for her summer class is due Thursday! What to do? What to do?

Just picked up DD’s copy at our local Border’s–they were only handing out copies to those who had reserved (I did on the last possible day!) I felt sorry for those who didn’t and had to leave empty handed. I don’t think there are many extra copies out there today.

I woke DD up by throwing the book and free poster on her bed (with her in it). She’s excited. Too bad it didn’t come out before she had her wisdom teeth out earlier this week! She has to go back to work today.

Anybody else’s 18 year old (or older) kid as excited as mine is?

MINE IS!!
Wanting to avoid possible spoilers, she asked me to try and nab her a copy last night, which I did without hassle at our grocery store. Not sure how late she was up reading. She was funny, though. Right before I left, she took a shower and said, “Mom, get a good look at me now because that was the last shower I’m taking before this book is finished!” haha :D

P.S. D is 18.

“anyone who ordered from amazon get theirs? this is so sad :-(”

UPS tracking still shows Ds book at the warehouse. Hope the tracking just hasn’t been updated and that books are actually on the trucks.

They had quite a few copies at the airport giftshop this morning!

D and friends went to parties at Hastings and Books A Million last night. She brought home a copy for S who flew to Grandma’s early today.

I’m tracking my Amazon package. It’s been in my city since 3am on July 20. It should be hear by now. :)

I keep hearing phantom UPS trucks!!!

SpringfieldMom, yes, my D is 18 and I believe was counting the days for the book to come out and is reading it now (is not home for the summer). I also have a D who is 20 who is also into it, but slightly less obssessed. She is in Europe. This weekend she is traveling and so I don’t think she was able to get the book but I am sure was willing to wait. My husband is buying it today. He is 52. :D

My Amazon order arrived at 10:45 this morning. Yesterday watching the back and forth on the tracking I called UPS who told me they had a delivery date of 7/27 on the order! I told them politely that they were wrong and they informed me I would have to call Amazon and have them straighten it out!

Ok, so I called Amazon Customer Service, which is apparently not located in the US, AND they told me UPS would not deliver on Saturday and UPS was going to deliver the book to my local post office and I would receive it in the mail today! Customer Service gave me the phone number for my local post office. At this point I couldn’t believe the answers I was getting, so I called the local post office just to see what answer I would get from them - and the number was disconnected! I gave up at that point and just decided to have faith.

I will have to say, the delivery box was designed just for the book and I thought that was a nice touch. I also thought is was funny that UPS rang the doorbell and I had to sign for the book. Usually, they ring the doorbell and are pulling away before I can answer the door!

I called UPS and they said it will be delivered by 6 p.m., either by UPS or by the postal service.

Mary, I’m hearing phantom UPS trucks, too.

oh god there’s a car blocking my mail box and I don’t know whose it is.

As I said above, both my kids had their books in hand before 12:30. There was a lot of discussion among the two as to when they could speak to each other. My daughter (20) doesn’t want to hear her brother (23) bragging how far he is in the book. She still has to finish her two 10-12 page paper, work on two 20 minute presentations and study for one exam; all this is due Monday and Tuesday!

At 1:30 this morning in the middle of the kids reading, our power goes out!! My daughter is screaming; you would have thought the end of the world was near:-) The kids ran around collecting flashlights and lanterns to read buy. I know my son was up until 5:00, my daughter does know what time she went to bed. The power was back on at 3:15, so they didn’t suffer too much.

Amazon order (UPS) arrived at 10:05 this morning with a copy that we now don’t need. I guess my son will go to Kroger and return one today if he ever leaves the house. He said he wasn’t watching tv, reading the paper, or going out until he was finished for fear of hearing spoilers. My daughter on the other hand may not be as lucky with all her school work.

I just came from the grocery store. (Needed to get some Aleve for SO who was fixing the roof all day yesterday and the day before after yet another tree committed suicide by house).

When I got to the checkout, I asked the young man if he knew anywhere close by I could get the new Harry Potter book. He pointed to the huge display not 10 feet in front of me. I’ve never been accused of being a poet of the world around me. So I grabbed a book and I’m about to do an all day read-a-thon.

I have to admit, I usually wait till I have reason to drive west and get them (sometimes weeks or months later) about $6 cheaper at the Books-A-Million. I think once or twice I even held out and got them in paperbook. But it’s kind of nice being part of a worldwide read-in.
