harvard 2014 hopeful! but have bad SAT scores?

hey guys, so like many of you people, am too a harvard hopeful, but the bitter reality bites me that i exactly dont have a good SAT score although am well rounded! my extra-currics are pretty strong but the fact is they dont matter much! and save the sad story of my not-so-good transcripts for later! am an international, and in my junior year. i a, scoring a 2000ish raw on the SAT-1 AND am sure am not gonna increase up that mark anytime soon! and i really REALLY want to get into Harvard! :\ although, i read that colleges DO look for well rounded people, well may that increase my chances(be it too small itself)?
also, can someone tell me if someone got accepted into harvard although not getting in his 21+ , 22+ or 23+ either? just some motivation to raise hopes and work for it more? :frowning:
thanks

what do you exactly mean by 2014 hopeful?? you mean one who joins in 2014 or one who graduates in 2014?

gosh! akashdip, stop trolling and stalking me! -_- and it mean whos accepted in 2014!

hey i wasnt stalking you…erm…why should i? your post came up 1st in the new posts link.
btw you are in grade 11 right?

yeah i am!
BUMPPPPPPP
( i know the time difference, but someone please??)

sorry for trolling btw.

anyway getting back to your question, read up the harvard admission stats, “For every admitted student with a perfect 2400, there was someone who got into Harvard with a 1960 SAT”. hope this answers your question.

try to sort out your problems. i hope you always get perfect score in math dont you? then try to improve the CR and W parts. and how about your sat 2 scores? try to keep them perfect too. and as far as your ECs are concerned… on your resume try to stress on the part which you like the best. always remember depth is infinitely more valued than breadth. ill give you an example. i hope ive earlier mentioned that my cousin(he lived in us though) got into Cornell. he had 16 years of piano and 14 years of fingerstyle guitar up on his brag sheet. and he played varsity soccer and tennis and all. he had won state level awards too. but you know what, he thinks(even now) that those didnt help him get Cornell. the thing was that he was learning sitar for just one year. of all the interviewer could seem impressed at, he was really intrigued by the simple(jk its not at all simple) musical instrument from india. it was this uniqueness that he thinks helped him get in. im not saying that you should rush to get a sitar tuition. no, but try to find out that special and unique you within yourself. and try things that are unique. things that the adcoms would love to add to their already stupendous student body.

i hope you dont get angry on me for this long and useless post:)

“For every admitted student with a perfect 2400, there was someone who got into Harvard with a 1960 SAT”

That does not come from a Harvard website that comes from hopelesstoharvard.com or whatever which is nothing but a scam that feeds on applicants’ insecurity.

If you are an Indian national then trust me you will need a whole lot more to get in with 2000ish SAT scores as plenty of people will be applying from your pool with 2250+ and many of them have high level of accomplishments in other parts of the application as well. Of course SAT scores aren’t everything but having SAT over the 50th percentile or at least a score of 2100 with 700 in each section would make it somewhat safe.

And accepted at 2014 would mean Class of 2018. That is still a long way man. Keep your grades up and develop your ECs. Why are you so bothered at THIS point? If you are already getting 2000ish score then you still have time to study and raise the score!

what is hopelesstoharvard btw? i got the quote from an interview of an harvard adcom. probably the hopelessforharvard thing borrowed it from him.

Google is always at your disposal akashdip
when you search for hopelesstoharvard add “scam” and then see the results.

ok ill check. and why didnt you reply last day? PM me the answers.:D

Reply what last day? PM me

Lets not carry this discussion any further and hijack OP’s thread

ok. lets move on to PM.

thanks darthspawnus n akashdip! anyone else?!

you’re welcome. best of luck bro.

and i mean the class of 2014!

If you are the class of 2014…then you have PLENTY of time…, as you are only a Sophomore!! Not a junior… My dd14 is currently a sophomore…, the juniors are the class of 2013 and graduating college 2017. You can take the SAT many many more times before applying…

he’s not a sophomore. he’s a junior. he posted the year wrong.

annd sorry to disturb you OP.

Wait, so you’re saying you’re international, don’t have good test scores, have a bad transcript, and don’t have that great ECs? I’m not sure I’m interpreting you correctly. Applying can’t hurt, obviously, especially if you can make an eloquent case for yourself in your essays and have great recs, but if I interpreted you correctly, your chances are looking pretty slim, mate.

Good but not great SATs, self-described mediocre transcript, and international applicant.

Given the current application pool into Harvard, I’d suggest you not place much if any hope into this scenario. Your energies should be placed in a well researched list of schools where you’ll likely get an offer.

wow! thats a shocker! -_- …
well i do have mediocre transcripts and pretty bad SAT score(2000ish, actually am yet to give it this week, buy am not rising much above 2000) :expressionless: BUT am SURE i have outstanding ECs(including one or international awards) AND shining recommendations and great Essays too… then what? maybe SOME chance?! atleast enough to keep my hopes high?
