<p>Does anyone think Harvard will take some surprise people this year with only a 3.7 uw GPA? I never understood why my friends have this hope. 16 people applied for Harvard from my school this year and only 8 of them are in the top 10% of the class (and probably only 4-5 have over a 3.8 GPA). Assuming that Harvard takes zero 3.8 uw GPA students, I honestly have no idea what in the world the other 8 of those kids are thinking. They aren’t recruits or black either. So what does everyone think? Does it ever really even happen?</p>

<p>Assuming Harvard takes zero 3.8 uw kids a year?! That’s definitely not going to happen. A 3.8 gpa with a stellar SAT score has a pretty damn good shot at HYP. Comparatively low GPAs can be made up for with other aspects of the application…and if you’re at a school that sends lots of kids to H annually, a 3.8 may be just fine.</p>
<p>I have lower than a 3.8 GPA, but I’m 13 (going to move up after this semester ends) out of 473. Its all about the context of the school.</p>
<p>There are some top private high schools that send dozens of students to HYPSM each year despite having fewer than dozens of students who have unweighted GPA’s greater than 3.8.</p>
<p>@ g0ld3n: Look through the results threads for Harvard 2014. There was a user, Lirazel, who got admitted to Harvard despite the fact that she had lower than a 3.8 unweighted.</p>

Completely agree. At one point last year, I had lower than a 3.7 UW GPA but was ranked 3rd out of 440 students.</p>

<p>Haha all this talk of interviews is making me jealous, even though I know an interview or a lack thereof won’t significantly affect anyone’s decisions. As I posted previously on this thread, I actually submitted my application to Harvard in mid-September and I still haven’t gotten anything.</p>
<p>Got my applicant status login information today. All of my required documents have been processed and all of my test scores have been received. My interview is next week. </p>
