Harvard and minimum-wage jobs

Go into Target. Ask anyone working there if they would rather work next to someone going to Harvard or going to Home Community College. Better yet, hand them two resume that are comparable except for the college listed:Harvard vs CC. Then counterbalance by doing the same at Walmart but switch the schools and leave the rest the same. Over and over again, which would workers at places like Target prefer working with, a Harvard or a CC student?

No, Potential co-workers aren’t impressed. They want to choose the person they think will pick up a spill faster. But, if you go into a research lab and ask the same question…you’d likely get a different reply.

I actually disagree, most lab folks would say I do not want to work with a pompous know it all.I bet most people in a lab would prefer a person from Purdue, Texas A & M or Bradley University.

Doesn’t Target use a multiple choice “personality/psychlogical” test as part of their application process? I seem to recall that type of test last time I was in Target filling out their computerized job application. They are looking for certain personality traits that they have determined over time are best for their store environment. The type of person they are looking for may or may not be the same type of person Harvard is looking for. While gaining admittance to Harvard is a tremendous accomplishment, I would leave it off my summer job application unless it was somehow relevant to the job.

Zobroward, I suppose it depends upon the job in the lab. I doubt it depends upon the job in Target. But, the schools you list are all strong and hardly community colleges.
