<p>Is Macbook enough, performance and screen size or do you need to pony up the extra $ to get a Macbook Pro.</p>
<p>The biggest difference between the MacBook and the MacBook Pro is the graphics card (MB has integrated graphics, while MBP has an actual graphics card). I don’t think this would make a big difference for Applied Math–you’d be able to run Mathematica or the like regardless.</p>
<p>If there ever were a situation where you needed a more powerful machine, Harvard has some powerful machines in their computer labs (or you could SSH into a linux box). In any case, the MB should be fine, unless you want to do some hardcore gaming or 3D rendering.</p>

<p>I met BillG last week–he seems like a nice guy. I don’t think he’s sweating bullets about losing a few % market share to Apple–especially if people are buying XP/Vista along with their new Macs so they can dual boot.</p>
