Harvard BBS

Does anyone know if you’re admitted to the BBS program at Harvard if labs at Dana Farber, Mass. General Hospital, Brigham labs etc. (basically Harvard affiliated institutes) are open for graduate students in general? I know that the PIs would have to have funding for grad students for them to take anyone but I didn’t even know that was an option. One of my friends who’s applying to Harvard said that was the main advantage for her that there are literally hundreds of labs you could do your research in. I thought about emailing the program but wanted to check here first in case it’s a dumb question. I scoured the website and didn’t see anything indicating this.

Yes, most PIs at Dana Farber, MGH, Brigham, etc. are Harvard faculty and can therefore take Harvard graduate students.

I actually am a BBS grad student, and my thesis lab is at MGH.

When I started in the lab, I was the only BBS student, and my PI wasn’t even affiliated with BBS. It wasn’t a problem. The program is very flexible about the faculty you’re allowed to rotate with and whose labs you’re allowed to join.

If you look through the BBS faculty pages, you’ll see that a number of them have addresses at the various hospitals and institutes.
