A couple of months ago I saw a thread on here with a link to a Canadian kids website or something like that, where he posted his acceptance letter and some sort of certificate of acceptance.

Does anyone still know where that link was? Also, does Harvard send these certificates out to everyone with the acceptance letter this thursday?

In general, when do we get what mailed? What will be included in the letter we get on thursday and what’s included in the welcome package that follows if we choose to enroll?

I posted the link you’re referring to. Unfortunately its expired. Here’s a substitute image - without quite the resolution - of Senator Charles Schumer’s certificate of admission, dating from 1967. Presumably his proud parents framed it and hung it over the TV set! He now has it posted on his website.

Yeah, Harvard sends out a certificate. And if I’m not mistaken, the dean will personally sign the admissions letter too. I framed the certificate and kept it at my house. Definitely a VERY cool thing to keep. Harvard is the best at making you feel wanted when you get in, probably one of the many factors why their yield is astronomical.

I’ve heard it said before of Harvard grads that they if they could walk around with a giant crimson H on their forheads they would, and this only confirms this view! Why on earth do you want every single person who comes to your home to have to know you were admitted to Harvard?

Come on, ukrus, it’s no different than people putting giant penants of Giant State College everywhere…and the increased prestige is cancelled out by the decreased visablity. Nobody looks at the wallhangings in a house unless forced (by bright colors or by well-meaning hosts), and it’s unlikely anyone with self-respect would put it right where everyone can see it. I have my acceptance letters hanging on the fridge…the H certificate would go on top because it’ll be the prettiest.

“it’s unlikely anyone with self-respect would put it right where everyone can see it” - is all I was refering to. Compare to “Presumably his proud parents framed it and hung it over the TV set” from Byerly…

They send a fat packet if you are accepted.

Actually, I never quite understood the use of the acceptance certificate. I think the certificate that counts is the diploma you get coming out, not this thing they give you going in.

I’d think the certificate is for those who get in but choose to go to a less prestigious school. Like a document to say “I’m good enough for Harvard” even if you’re not going there.

I appreciate Harvard’s tough to get into, I just don’t see why you’d want to force the fact that you did onto others. Are you not pleased with the achievement yourself? Do you not think your’e an interesting or confident enough person, so need to have this to converse successfully with others?
