Harvard Admissions hasn’t contacted me yet, which is probably due to the number of applicants they received…but I’m still wondering if I should write an email and ask them about if I should set up one or not. What worries me is that some colleges like for the students to take the initiative, so I’m not sure if I should in this case.

…And if so, any suggestions on where to start?

Domestic Harvard interviews are not related to students’ “initiative”. They are done by regional alumni volunteers-- who are assigned interviewees. You may live in an area where there are too many to handle and/or there are too few volunteers.

Your task is to sit tight and try to be patient (even though it’s difficult). But take heart: the interview is the tiniest portion of your file that’s evaluated and 98% of the time, it doesn’t matter anyways.

Thanks for the response I feel much more relieved now…people have been telling me my not getting an interview meant Harvard planned to reject me, and (while my chances of getting accepted aren’t high anyway) it was still worrisome.

Interviews are done completely blindly. They do not even look at your files before selecting students for interview. Some students may get the interview, some students will not. At least this is how UPenn does it.
