harvard or john hopkins for biology?

Should I choose harvard or john hopkins for biology? What do you guys think??

I’d say John Hopkins since they’re very well known for medical studies and other biological related majors…Not sure about Harvard.

This is entirely a choice of personal preference. If medical school is your goal, there is no significant difference. Go where you’ll be happy and, if money is an issue, follow large financial aid packages.

Harvard, since John Hopkins doesn’t exist.

But really, JohnS Hopkins is a major beast in the bio-related fields.

I’m surprised you didn’t get rejected for spelling “Johns Hopkins University” wrong

Threads about choosing a college after being admitted belong in the College Search & Selection forum, not in the College Admissions Forum, naturally. Good luck at finding advice for making a suitable decision.

You may or may not end up a bio major (I know you think you are sure but so are a lot of incoming students that end up changing their major even if they remain pre-med). Harvard’s acceptance rate to medical school is incredible. It is relatively rare for students to not get in. It has the best reputation among medical schools. Hopkins is a terrible place for premeds - far more cutthroat, they try to weed out a huge percentage of hopeful doctors because of the type of environment it is and the fact that it draws so many med school hopefuls because of its medical school. Harvard is THE place to be for a pre-med. I’m suprised frankly that you had the brains to get into both but not the wisdom to see the obvious choice. Strength of the department according to graduate rankings says little about undergraduate teaching (which is what you should care about) or the individual professors you end up with.

Go with Harvard unless financial aid is an issue and which case Harvard will meet the JHU offer without a problem I’m sure.

Having said that, if you are more interested in just studying Biology but are unsure what you want to do or you are thinking of pursuing a PhD in Biology I would (in that case) consider Hopkins more carefully because PhD programs in Biology are not huge GPA whores like medical schools. It’s more about your research and relationships you build with big time faculty that can vouch for you. Access to faculty support and research opportunities will be better at Hopkins than Harvard which is known for it’s faculty being too busy for undergrads. Also, JHU is smaller.

So, it really depends on your goals.
