<p>i was accepted at 9/10 of my schools (waitlisted at penn hah jk) but ive narrowed it down to harvard and the union combined program. im from albany and my dad went to AMC. like all combined students, i got the 40k total scholarship and the mba is huge for what im looking to do. but i love harvard so much after visiting and i just dont know if i can turn it down. i would love to live in cambridge and get that whole âworldlyâ experience. but im worried about all the added stress of MCATs and med school admission and wondering if its worth the benefit when i know i have something guranteed and if i work hard enough (crosses fingers) a good residency will be mine after AMC. i also know a lot of areas doctors which would help in terms of networkingâŠ</p>
<p>Your dilemna is not an easy one. But given the choice, I would pick Union/AMC because the scholarship, the MBA program, the networking, the medical school guaranteeâŠare worth turning down Harvard. You will quickly realize when unlike your premed colleagues at Harvard, you, as an undergrad at Union, are not stressed about the MCAT exam, the med school admission process, or the uncertainty of whether you will get in and where.
Work hard, do well, stand out at Union/AMC. Who knows: you might land a residency at Harvard, and then you will have the best of both worlds!</p>
<p>Harvard. If you made it into Harvard and the combined program, youâll probably make it into medical school alot better than AMC after Harvard undergraduate.</p>
<p>I am/was in a similar situation with union/amc vs brown. I called union and they were able to increase the merit aid from 10k per yr to 15k. Meanwhile I think brown is the better choice for me.</p>
<p>if you are 100% sure that you want to be a doctor, go union/amc. the harvard âworldlyâ experience it not worth. MCATâs and med school applications are such a pain that it will take away from this âworldlyâ experience. you will be constantly thinking about padding your resume and preparing for the MCATâs all the time. and if you got into harvard, you obviously have the potential to grab a good residency match through AMC</p>
<p>but if you want to be some sort of researcher in medicine, i would go harvard.</p>
<p>go to harvard, you wonât regret getting away from home, experiencing another place/town, and those connections back at albany med for residency etc will always be there because your dad will always be able to help you/give you advice, and you can still maintain the connections while attending harvard. you can establish new contacts at harvard as well, plus itâs such an accomplishment to get into harvard, donât limit yourself to staying in the same area you grew up in and attending a school out of fear you wont get to your goals. thereâs also some advice on studentdoctor.net for the progams and unionâs. good luck with whatever decision you make</p>
