Harvard Parent Thread

guitars, my daughter already knows who your son is and also gadad’s daughter. She had met up with MSMDad’s daughter when she was a freshman, and I believe they had bubble tea together. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of our kids knew each other.

My daughter knows Hat’s son and EAO’s kids. This whole thing makes me feel a tiny bit like a part of the experience my daughter is going through. Thanks to all of you for keeping me up to date I’m jealous of those of you who can visit several times a year. And thanks for the graduation announcements info. Hope to see a couple of you in a few weeks at JPW.

lousyanamom, really?? wow! how does she know who my son is? does she live in Quincy?

Rosnard, enjoy JPW. We had a blast!!

guitars, I’d sent you a pm in 2010 regarding Jr Parent weekend, and you had responded back with your son’s name. When I’d asked my D, she mentioned that she knew him as they have a common friend. You had said that you’d check with him if he knew my dtr.

BTW, has anyone ordered the yearbook and is it better to have it shipped home, as I believe it is 500 pgs and hardcover bound.

lousyanamom, I’ve just sent you a pm.

Also, I’m sure I’ve completed just messed up big time… but, is it too late to order the yearbook?

No, it is not too late. You can order till Apr 1st without any extra charge. I’d spoken with them today and looks like it is a big book… 500 pgs. I was debating whether i should have it shipped home for the extra cost or just have D pick it up in May. the girl said that all Srs will get an email to come and pick it up.

perfect! I will probably just have it sent here and rid my son of another errand.

The Hotel Marlowe is offering a special rate the weekend of Jr Parents Wkd. $119 if you use the code PCLOSE. Not as close as some of the other hotels, but at that price you can afford quite a few taxis. The hotel is attached to Galleria.

We bought a yearbook and I like it. It’s very much like a high school yearbook except that it’s the biggest and highest-quality yearbook you’ve ever seen. Another difference is that only the seniors are pictured, and they are sorted by House and then alphabetized within each House’s section. So even if your kid’s last name is say Anderson, he’s still going to be near the back of the book if his House happens to be Winthrop.

thanks coureur. I am ordering it today  - my son said he submitted all his bio stuff last summer and thought that I ordered one. I just checked and I do have until April 1st. whewwww!!

My only hesitation in having it shipped directly to our home was, wouldn’t she like her friends and prof’s to sign in it? I wonder if they still do that like in high school.

^^I can’t speak for all 1600 graduating seniors, but based on what I saw with my daughter and her blockmates, I’d say that they no longer sign yearbooks as they did back in high school.

But proud parents do buy dedication space and publish poems, baby/childhood pictures, congratulations, and such in the back of the book - just like in high school yearbooks. We didn’t do that. As I recall it was quite pricey.

Thanks, coureur. I’ll have ours shipped home.

We want to order the yearbook, we don’t have the order form in hand. Would you please provide us the link to order the yearbook? Thanks in advance.

healthy99, the website is [Harvard Yearbook Publications](http://www.Harvardyearbook.com)

I had a little trouble with the online order site so I called today and they took the order over the phone. easy!

Guitars, thank you very much!

you’re welcome. I hope the website works, if not just call them

Greetings. my son was accepted EA to Harvard in November. He was super excited about the admission but over the holidays his cousins (all Stanford grads) gave him the hard sell on Stanford. So he did put in a regular admission ap[plication there also. He wants to visit Harvard outside of Visitas so we are going for a weekend in March, staying over a Monday. We were also planning to go for Visitas, but do you think that would be redundant? What kind of programs do they have for the parents during Visitas? What time do programs start Saturday and end Monday? (trying to figure out if we can leave early Sat am to save a hotel stay Friday night).
thank you in advance for any insight!

Also, it looks like I am late looking for hotels for the Visitas weekend. What are your favorite reasonable hotels? We booked the Royal Sonesta for the March weekend for $214 /night but for that April weekend the rates jump to $320 per night (ouch!).

Sending congrats to you and your Son Scrappy. Please be aware that Spring Break is in March. Students will be leaving campus March 9th and classes resume March 19th.

I did not attend Visitas with my D. Most of the activities during Visitas are geared for the student but I believe there are a few things for parents. I would encourage letting your son attend visitas by himself.
