Harvard Parent Thread

Perhaps its an old layout or floorplan, but I just googled “holworthy hall floor plan” and several layouts are shown. AGAIN, it may be an old layout or floor plan. When my son attended Harvard the floor plans were available online. Unfortunately, it does not seem that’s the case any longer :frowning:

I had seen these, but I am not sure they are of the dorm room. I was actually more after how the rooms mapped to floors, and how the Megasuites work. Thanks for the information posted on that. Based on this, my daughter already has a group chat going with her Megasuite. My work is done!

drshoema, best of luck to your daughter. She’s going to love it there. We’re from California so traveling to Cambridge was always fun for us. Enjoy your visits to Cambridge

BTW, my son was in Matthews his freshman year.

My daughter was in Thayer. Here is a cool link for freshman dorms:

If you google “Harvard freshman dorm rooms floor plans [Matthews]” – inserting your student’s dorm name instead of [Matthews] – and then select IMAGES – you can see photos of actual Harvard Freshman dorm rooms and common spaces. In this way, parents and students can get an idea of how much space there might be for additional furniture. (Given this option, I’m not sure why the FDO does not actually provide floor plans – but such is the bureaucracy called “Mother Harvard” that you and your child will be dealing with for the next four years.)

Hmmm. Thanks @gibby for both the tip and the “good” news on the bureaucracy. So far Harvard has been more responsive than other schools we applied to but no organization of that size is without bureaucracy.

D will be in Pennypacker.

I am wondering what the move in experience is going to be like for Malia Obama. I am hoping that she can have an experience like all of us would want when bringing our child to college. I hope she has that and that her Mom and Dad have that. If the Obama’s are there I hope they are given space and that their privacy is respected.
I would love to see President Obama carrying a mini fridge up a couple of flights of stairs though!

I don’t see that happening, but hopefully it won’t be the zoo that it was when Chelsea went to Stanford, although it was a bit different since her father was the sitting POTUS at the time.

I expect that there is going to be a lot more activity in the yard than usual.
We will be in Cambridge on Tuesday and Wednesday to move our daughter in for her Senior year and to spend time with her.

There will be other students with high profile parents on move in day. We had Dan Ackroyd and Donna Dixon’s daughter move into my sons dorm. Also, Mike Chertoff (Head of homeland security under Bush) was there with his family moving his daughter in. People are really focused on their own childs experience being at Harvard. It’s a special place with lots of important people always walking around campus.

How long will you be there, @GreatKid? I will be there Friday and Saturday to help my sophomore D move. @Guitars101 is right about there always being a few famous folks.

Hi EastGrad,
Just tomorrow and Wednesday. Good luck getting your daughter moved in and situated! We will be back in Cambridge on the 23rd and 24th of September to visit and to attend the Harvard versus Brown football game.

I miss all the excitement of move in day. So many eager and excited students (and parents). Enjoy every moment with your student.

I wish I could move my girl in again! I miss all that excitement too. Have fun all of you who are getting to be part of it all and enjoy every moment.

Sorry to miss you, @GreatKid. Enjoy your weekend in September. We will be back again in late October, but probably not before then.

I hope you enjoy your time with your daughter and the move in goes well.

I live nearby and was walking through the yard this evening. The place is bustling after an empty few weeks between summer school and the college. Good luck to all!

How are everyone’s students doing and adjusting to living in Cambridge? Best of luck to all

D is loving it. Had first EC10 test tonight. We’re going to parent’s weekend in a couple weeks.
