The houses used to have certain reputations (the artsy house, the jock house, the blueblood house, etc.) because students had to interview to be placed into them (back in the day.) The reputations linger but they are no longer accurate.

The reputations linger only by word of mouth as a quaint âhistoricalâ note, like, âOh, how funny that back in the day, Adams was the artistic house and Eliot was the blueblood house.â It has no relevance, though, in terms of the question of whether or not Harvard has specialty housing like other schools do, since the houses are created randomly now and no one is allowed to request certain houses like they used to. The houses are more like microcosms of the College.

Yes, that is one of my favorite parts of the College. Everything is a microcosm; no one pays more for any type of housing or meal plan and no one can request a certain type of housing.

I was wondering which is the most cost effective shipping service you are using to ship stuff to Harvard? Also, which is the best student credit card?

D2 is in Wigglesworth - weâre all happy; there are nice perks there as long as you decide to define the subterranean rumbling of the T trains as âquaintâ rather than âirritating.â
Are any of the other parentsâ threadersâ students assigned there?

I am a new Harvard parent. Can anyone give me some info. on dorms? My daughter is assigned to a Holworthy suite with two bedrooms and a common room. There are four girls in the suite. From pictures one room appears to be much smaller with bunk beds. Does anyone know the closet situation in this suite? My daughter loves clothes. Is storage space a problem in this dorm? Also, can the bunk beds in the smaller room be un-bunked (is there enough space?) One last question: How does sharing a bathroom with 7 other girls work out? --Thanks!

There is one closet per bedroom in Holworthy, and the smaller room is just barely too small to have un-bunked beds. My brother lived in Ho-Central this year and also loves clothes, so he brought one of those extra hanging-rack things. Canât really speak to the bathroom situation with girls since weâre both guys, but it seems to work alright.

Can anyone comment on the room layout in Pennypacker, in terms of closets and bedroom size? Can the bunks be âdebunkedâ hereâŠ?

U.S. mail. It is cheapest and reliable.

I lived in Thayer and had to share a bathroom with all of the girls on my floor (around 15). Honestly, it wasnât as bad as it sounds. The bathrooms are cleaned regularly and I didnât have to wait to use the shower or anything that often. You kind of just find a time that works for you. Like, I would take a shower at 8:30 am. Most of the girls didnât have 9 am class so it was usually open around this time. It takes some getting used to but, as long as youre not extremely uncomfortable walking down the hall in your towel, its not really a big deal.

Any info on Weld and Straus?

I never realized that they organized the entryways as well. I know of quite a few freshmen rooming groups from my day that didnât stay together, though they all stayed pretty good friends with former roommates, but did rearrange themselves within the entryway.

lingotjuiceâgo to the âHousing Assignmentsâ thread for lots of Weld info.

Thanks!! char10

Iâve slept in Wigglesworth at a reunion and didnât think the trains were bothersome. I think I was on the 2nd floor.

If you moved the dressers out of the smaller room in Holworthy, would it still be too small to unbunk the beds? Also is there a window in each bedroom? Thanks for your help?

You cannot unbunk the beds in the small room, the dimensions do not work (at least as far as I know, and I know plenty of Harvard kids and parents that have tried different configurations).

gadad,
D is also in Wigglesworth, and apparently is a âWigletâ as she is in I Building. She seems very happy with her housing assignment. Hopefully our daughters will become acquainted!

How far from Harvard Yard is the nearest Bed, Bath & Beyond (via cab, in cabfare)? How about Target?

Though Iâm not sure if it is the closest, there seems to be a rather big mall located east of Harvard Yard. It looks like it should have all the stores necessary for dorm shoppingâŠ
