Harvard Parent Thread

Definitely bring a fan!

Also, there are two CVS stores right in Harvard Square. If your son or daughter will have a renewable prescription, you may want to set it up at CVS for convenience.

I made a map of Boston-area stores and attractions: grocery stores, home stores, tourist attractions, movie theaters, and parking lots. Most have directions for getting there on the bus or subway.

Map!

If there’s anything (reasonable :)) that you’d like added to the map, please let me know.

^oh hi how was vacation

There’s a 24 hr CVS on mass ave, that’s the one I recommend for obvious reasons.

Mollie - that is way cool. Thank you!

Mollibatmit - thank you so much - have printed this out - a real keeper!

Can anyone tell me if any of the following items are already in the dorm rooms:

Microwave oven
Refrigerator
Book Shelves
Bathroom Shelves
Coat Racks
Ceiling Lights
Telephones
Desks with Chairs
Shower Curtains

believer8 -
Each room has…

Book shelves (1 per student)
Floor lamp (not ceiling light)
1 red telephone
1 desk w/ chair for each student
Shower curtains

You have to buy microwaves and refrigerators.

Not every room has a floor lamp–many do just have ceiling lights. Microwaves aren’t technically allowed, so you have to hide them come inspection time…

Has anyone has experience hiding a coffee-maker in their room? Or is there an easier way to get coffee late into the night?

We had a hot-water thing to make tea…which is sort of the same deal. Very easy to hide. You can always go to brain break before it closes, but if you’re going to need coffee at like 12 am or something you might as well bring your own

There are actually some reasonably good instant espresso brands - just heat a mug of water in the microwave and stir in the espresso powder. D1 says it packs a pretty good caffeine punch.

does anyone know if the students get their prescriptions filled at the Harvard Health services or do they go across the street to the CVS or other pharmacy?

Thanks in advance!

Usually CVS.

You can get them filled at either place, and CVS is probably more convenient.

Thanks mollie and admiral. Is it more convenient because it’s at a more central place and the hours are probably better?

Guitars101: Yes, both of the above.

thanks :)

According to the UHS site, even if you waive the extra insurance fee you still get a “Prescription Drug Benefit,” with “$1,875 maximum benefit per term, $10, $20 or $35 copayment for up to a 30-day supply of each filled or refilled prescription…”

What does that mean? UHS pays/helps pay for any prescriptions I may need?

Thoughts on iron & ironing board ?

Coat Rack ?
