Harvard SCEA 2024 Applicant Discussion!

OMGGG ALL ACCEPTED PEOPLE WE NEED TO LINK UP

VISITASSSS

congratulations!!! youre my first classmate as well omg… im so excited :") hope to see you there next year!!

Congrats to my daughter and to the rest of the Harvard C/0 2024!

@Pinkeydance THANK YOU!!! im still shocked tbh. my standardized testing and grades are pretty strong (im somewhere in the top 3-5% of my class at school), but i think what probably made my application was my recs - im really fortunate to have had teachers that i had good relationships with.

im really passionate about music and tried my best to convey that through my application (plus some music achievements/awards that i got), so hopefully i was able to represent myself well!! to tell the truth im not really sure what exactly got me accepted, but i hope this is at least a little helpful.

OMG I GOT IN YAY!!! And with only a 1350 on my SAT and a pretty bad GPA also! Thank god my race is soooo dumb (I’m black by the way) that they have to lower their standards so much to get people in lol

In such disbelief right now!

@marshmalloes Oh sick, music was a big part of my App too!

@Nxxx482 You are extremely lucky to get in with stats. Congrats! Are you an athlete?

I’m so grateful I got in! And no I’m not an athlete.

@LaPulga10 thanksssssss. No I’m not lol I just write good essays and have great extracurriculars

Hey y’all, CO '23 here. Wanted to congratulate those of you who were accepted, you worked hard to get here! And if you were deferred, you are just as deserving as anyone else, and you still have a chance to make it to Harvard (I was deferred then accepted RD) or elsewhere. Feel welcome to PM me if any of you have questions!

@zbrown01 What steps did you take after being deferred from Harvard that you feel helped you get in? Thanks

@sksgllms

This is from a PM I sent to someone else:

I personally didn’t do anything on my own accord after getting deferred (some people write a “deferral letter” to update on any more accomplishments after first applying, but it isn’t necessary), but i was given the option for a second interview directly with my admissions officer. If you’re given a second interview, I would take advantage of it. They already know a lot about you, but with a second interview you have the chance to direct the conversation, share anecdotes and stories and appear more three dimensional. Focus on what you bring to Harvard in particular.

Other than that, just hope for (but not expect) the best. Best of luck!

Anyone with advice on what to do after the deferral please share. I’m really not sure how to proceed now. Should I send a deferral letter? I haven’t really done anything new in the one month since I submitted my application, so it’s not like I’d have much to say there anyway. Should I get another letter of recommendation?

And also should I send an email requesting an interview, I’m an international applicant, and I never got an interview in the EA round. Should I wait for them to contact me or should I email them and start a conversation?

Unless something has drastically changed in your situation then u should notify. No point in calling or showing desperation. Hold tight and hope for the best. If you made up to here u r a strong candidate. Unless some one topples u over from RD pool.

Has anyone from India gotten into Harvard early this year?

Anyone rejected or the non-admits are all “deferred”? What is the conversion rate of deferred to accepted in the regular decision pool?

Who else is in the deferred gang at Harvard? keep your head up you guys… we got this

@AniAni they only reject a few hundred each year from early action, and majority of non-admit are deferred to the regular round.

Does anyone know if I have a chance to get an interview now that I’ve been deferred to RD? I never got an interview after applying SCEA, even though I live in the states.
