Harvard SCEA 2024 Applicant Discussion!

@Lyrinia I also didn’t get an interview and was wondering the same.

@Nxxx482 congrats on getting in! Could you please share your stats?

@zbrown01 Hi, I was wondering how long it took for you to receive your second interview after getting deferred. Also did you take any additional steps? Thanks.

@zbrown01 hey!!! Guess i am on the same boat as you were once!!! I got deffered and now 2 AOs want to interview me!! Is it a formal interview or like an alumni interview and what questions do they ask and also what answers should i give lmao. I am so excited to get dissapointed again lmao

@Muko1212, Great news. Did you take any additional steps to get the AO interview?

Why do AOs interview certain students?

Thank you! I’m still going to apply to Princeton and Yale just because I already finished those applications and I want to see if I can get into all 3 lol :slight_smile:

@MOMOM2024 thanks!! No i didnt take any steps!! They emailed me and told me that the director and dean wanted to talk to me. But i was def going to wirte a letter LOCI too

@Muko1212 what’s AO?

Admissions Officer

From another thread:

I didn’t see deferral percentages for this year yet, but in a recent previous class (https://www.thecrimson.com/article/2017/12/13/early-admissions-2022 ), Harvard deferred 74%, accepted 15%, and rejected only 9%. Being deferred does not mean you are a borderline applicant who has a decent chance of admission in RD. Instead it only suggests you are not in the bottom ~9% of SCEA applicants. The overall RD acceptance rate was only ~3% that year, and deferred applicants typically have a much lower acceptance rate than the overall RD rate. In short, unless something changes between the SCEA and RD round that makes the application far stronger, a deferred applicant should expect to be rejected in RD.

I hope everyone has other schools that they are truly interested in. Having a “dream school” can be destructive, honestly. You can be just as happy and successful at many many colleges and universities.

When should we write and send a LOCI?

@Lyrinia ill send one in around feb 15. Also dont think it’ll change their last decision much but who knows

Will the committee reread the whole application for those who gotten deferred for RD round? or they simply compare the ones from RD with the deferred?

@JKMSNJ the committee never reads the whole application. The readers do. They assign scores to different part of your apps and thats it. Deffered applicants dont get new readers but their old scores may be compared to new applicants so that if they are more competitive then their app may go to the admissions committee which makes the final decision

@Muko1212 Thank you!

To clarify, the committee sees more than numerical ratings. The AOs discuss applicants in subcommittees, and the top applicants, whether RD or deferred from EA, will be presented in the full committee. The committee has access to applications that are being discussed, and though they won’t read the whole application, they will often read parts of it.

Hi guys
So I got an email 2 days ago saying that I may get an interview and to save the email address as a contact and things like that. But I wanted to know 2 things
First whether everyone gets a college interview
And second, around how long after receiving this email should I get a response
Thankssss

does getting an interview for harvard mean anything? bc i heard that (according to the lawsuit) they pre-screen applicants, and you can’t get in w/out one, but i’m not totally sure.

Interview mean something if u are an international something. Domestic interviews are based on availability
