Harvard SCEA 2024 Applicant Discussion!

read this too late! i went with my original 40… but managed to personalize them by sharing my responses to/takeaway from each title, as well as some quirky stories behind my choice to read some of them. whale. i wrote my supp in a hurry - i’m just hoping it makes the cut! good luck everyone!!

how long was it?

Hey guys o just got my interview today! It’s scheduled for this Thursday.

Hi there, I created my account for the portal today and checked the list of materials they received. While both my teacher recommendations have been received, my additional recommendation is not listed. All three recs are shown to be submitted on the Common App, so I was just wondering if I should call to see if they got it or if the additional rec just doesn’t show up in the portal?

What happens if the entire Harvard SCEA app is submitted on 10/31 and then you realize that the 500 word supplemental essay wasn’t uploaded, and is uploaded today (11/2)?

@SCO9880 I don’t think that the supplemental essay will be received :frowning:

@kitkattail are you a US applicant?

@timberfrog20 I also submitted an additional rec which is not in my portal either. They only update the required material there so you shouldn’t worry about it!

@SCO9880 I would check Harvard’s website to see if there is a FAQ regarding your question. If not, I would write a quick email describing your concern. I do not think it will be a problem in your case, however, I am not certain!

I wonder why this discussion has so few participants compared to last year?

@danishlady Yes, I am from Texas! Are you from Denmark or the US?

@danishlady Also, ikr! I was expecting for this discussion to be a lot more lively, especially after Nov 1.

@kittrailor wow, congrats on your interview! How were you notified of it?

@kitkattail I hope it is because no one decided to apply to Harvard this year (Yeah, right!) xD

Yes, I am from Denmark. I applied REA but my SAT I is not the best so I am expecting a deferral. I hope the other parts of my application will negate the low-ish score! I have read the interviews are pretty important for us internationals so I am fairly anxious about receiving an email. Nothing yet…

@theletobe I was notified via email! I’m really surprised because I submitted my application on the 29th. I’m assuming it’s because a large number of people from my area are applying (I think 80+?).

@Danishlady Haha yes, hopefully! I read an article about last year’s SCEA applicant pool and it said that about 7k applied and 1k got in.

Good luck! From what I’ve read, stats aren’t everything! They’re merely a benchmark that must be met before the rest of your application is read. Also, although the interview isn’t important, it isn’t a huge factor! I read an article on here 30 minutes ago saying how this person had a terrible interview experience and then I investigated further and I saw that they got in!

Good Luck to you! I too was hoping for more activity on this feed

@kitkattail the acceptance rate is definitely higher for REA. It is around 14.5%, I believe. Of course, most athletic recruits and legacies are admitted REA, but a good portion is “normal” people. I am glad to hear that the student got in. I am sure your interview will be great. I think the most important thing is to be prepared (i.e. knowledgable about the school), and have questions for the interviewer as well. I also heard it is super casual unlike a job interview. Just woo them with your Texan charm haha

@kitkattail if we are lucky, we will both be seeing each other at Harvard in 2020!

Does Harvard even look at SAT Essay score? Can it be used against me if I scored very low?
