@umassbound from what I have heard, they do not since it is so subjective. The only reason why they would use it might be to confirm whether you wrote your own essay or not. E.g. if you scored the bare minimum but wrote perfect essays. It will absolutely not be what makes them choose another candidate instead of you. Hope my answer satisfies your question
Hi Guys!
I am so proud of all of us who challenge the most difficult/expensive/crimson university! This is such a tough but exciting experience. Hope December will make It all deserve:)
I saw someone said they got interview, I want to know how does committee decide the interview? Someone said they have a rating system while someone said It is just based on local alumni. I am living in Rochester, NY will I have an interview if It is the latter one?
Second, I saw so many people talkinh about their family financial /social background. How could Harvard tell this?
Third, I do not submit all of my IDOC since I am an international student and the system is totally different(Yeah my parents went to bank a lot these days). If i submit a little late(ppl this week), will It hurt my application for FA?
Thank you if you can help me figure out these.
Anyone get interview?
I heard the interviews were given in order of a rating scale, but that was from someone who claimed to be a Harvard interviewer. It was posted on last year’s REA thread. I’m not sure about the financial aid stuff, but I assume the sooner the better. I haven’t heard anything for an interview yet either
@Danishlady Yes! Good luck to you and I hope to meet at veritas <3 I’m so excited/scared haha
@pastygod @LebronIsTheGOAT for the interviews it depends on the availability of alumni in your region. I’ve heard of the ranking system but I’m not sure if it’s true.
Idk, it’s whatever
@pastygod hello fellow international applicant! May I ask where you are from? Some countries have a lot of interviewers where others have limited availability (my country). From what I have read, for REA/SCEA, there is only a rating system for international students. It also seems that most internationals from countries with limited availability who get an interview get in (not a certainty, of course). Others say you may not get one if you are a sure admit or they are certain you will not get in. Everything is speculation, of course, but it would likely be a good sign to get one of your are international. If you are American, I believe interviews are assigned randomly!
I would try to complete the IDOC as soon as possible. Your financial aid package (it admitted) may be delayed, but it shouldn’t hurt your chance of admission:)
Sure I am from China but i am in an American High school.
@pastygod you are in a country with limited interviews!
The USA is not a country with limited interviews; user said s/he is in Rochester, NY
@skieurope I interpreted it as her being from China abroad in the USA, which would still make her an international. I do see your point that she might get an interview under American conditions since she is in America. @pastygod sorry for my mistake. As skieurope mentioned, interviews are not limited in the US and they assign interviewers randomly, I believe. If you don’t get one it is likely just because they don’t have enough interviewers in your area!
To be clear, the user isfrom China living in the US and as such, will be considered an international applicant. The difference is that the application will be read by the AO handling Rochester, and academics/ECs will be viewed in that light. The flipside is any American living in China is still a domestic applicant.
@skieurope thank you very much for the clarification! Also, how do you reply to other people’s comments that way? Do you use the quote function?
Yes
Interview tomorrow! Kinda nervous haha
Does anyone want to share how you did the pre-interview resume? Some of the questions are not clear. such as NUMBER IN SENIOR CLASS and elected office.
What is the pre-interview resume? Did your interviewer send that to you?
Do you get a call or an email for your interview?
I just got an email about my interview. I am an international in a country with limited interviews. I got mine in the junk folder so make sure to check it, everyone! Good luck @kittrailor! I am sure you will be fantastic!
